Anyone who has seen Saltburn or The Banshees Of Inisherin knows that Barry Keoghan can really lose himself in a juicy role. Still, it’s hard to imagine the Oscar-nominated actor has ever been more excited about a part as the chance to play a generalized bad boy criminal type in his girlfriend Sabrina Carpenter’s newest music video, “Please Please Please.” To cite some sources on that, Keoghan is currently following one (1) person on Instagram, and that’s, of course, Sabrina. (He also reposted the video today with the caption, “What we sayin Darlin?!!”) No Emerald Fennell, Martin McDonagh, Jacob Elordi, or any other future directors or co-stars in sight!
The video, a pastiche of The Godfather, Bonnie And Clyde, and other mid-century crime thrillers, features Carpenter and Keoghan as a couple who meet in prison, before embarking together on a string of new crimes. As Keoghan’s character introduces Carpenter to his mafia buddies, however, the pop star realizes she might be in a bit over her head. Especially if we assume Sabrina was in jail in the first place for the crimes she committed in the sunny “Espresso” video—stealing a rich guy’s credit card for a few fun hours at the beach—the jump to full-on armed robbery is… a pretty big one.
The song itself also makes a presumed reference to Keoghan, who she’s been dating since sometime around December 2023. “I heard that you’re an actor, so act like a stand-up guy/Whatever devil’s inside you, don’t let him out tonight,” she sings. In general, the track makes a plea for Sabrina’s boyfriend to “please, plеase, please/Don’t bring mе to tears when I just did my makeup so nice,” which is, for both of their sakes, hopefully not a reference to the real Barry.
“Please Please Please” is the second single off of Carpenter’s upcoming sixth studio album, Short N’ Sweet, which she announced earlier this week. Like “Espresso,” it’s sultry and easy on the ears—a perfect poolside listen. While the album arrives in full on August 23, Carpenter will hopefully release a few more singles in the interim. It would be a shame for her rapidly growing army of fans not to take full advantage of the summer soundtrack on their own sunny beach days—even the ones that may or may not end in a little stint in jail.

Beavis and Butthead fundamentally prevents me from engaging seriously with the work of Sabrina Carpenter…to be fair, the song itself gets me 80% there.

I remember Sabrina, Italy’s answer to Samantha Fox, but hearing this Sabrina’s name reminds me of Sabrina the teenage witch and Karen Carpenter.

Seemingly that’s her thing…which is odd since she seems like she’s plenty attractive without that glossy, over-done look, but maybe it’s stylish as a style right now and I’m behind the times.
I wish I had the kind of weird face that’s sexy like Barry Keoghan’s or Bumblesnatch Cummerbund’s. Instead it’s just weird weird. Maybe having a ripped body in addition also helps.
