Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum find their way into Jurassic World 3

Back in June, Bryce Dallas Howard very subtly hinted that Jurassic Park alumni Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum would be returning to the series in some unconfirmed fashion. While Howard comes across as a very genuine, trustworthy person, we can’t really do much with “blink once for ‘yes,’ twice for ‘no’”-type commentary. Now, we have solid verification of the news that we’ve kind of known since June: At a recent screening of Jurassic World, Colin Trevorrow finally confirmed that Neill, Dern, and Goldblum would, in fact, be reprising their original roles in the upcoming sequel. And just to add a little flair to the announcement, which was prompted by an audience question regarding potential cameos from the original cast, Trevorrow brought out Dern as a surprise. He was also sure to note that the trio would be returning to significant roles, not just quick cameos.

Though Goldblum appeared briefly Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Dern has not reappeared in the franchise since Jurassic Park 3. Jurassic World 3 is slated for a June 11, 2021 release. If you’d prefer not to wait for your Jurassic fix, you can watch this Jurassic World short film, which Trevorrow made in secret.

Oh, fuck off.I’d only watch any Jurassic Park film in the hands of someone like Guillermo Del Toro or James Wan or even Spielberg again (If he brings back Dean Cundy for cinematography and not Kaminski). Another Jurassic World film from Colin Trevorrow of all people is something I do not want.Having the original cast again will not rekindle our love for the first film. Hell, we’re already facing a backlash against nostalgia so I don’t think bringing the original cast would improve anything, really.

I’m okay with the original cast members reappearing but after the last movie a major rethink is needed to continue the series. I can’t get over how poor it was.

The new movies were absolutely terrible, but I would really like Bryce to stick around in the new movie because she is a delight. No Pratt, though. And I agree on EVERY other point!

If there’s a franchise that required Werner Herzog to direct Jurassic Park is it. Frankly the most annoying part about this franchise has been this idea that the comservationist theme that’s been popping up in JP2 and Fallen Kingdom. The idea that we need to protect the dinosaurs in their natural habitat doesn’t really make a great conservation message doesn’t really hold up when you realize that the dinosaurs are less actual dinosaurs and more genetic abominations that approximate what paleontologists thought dinosaurs looked like in the 90’s and they’re an invasive species that likely destroyed the ecosystems of Isla Nubar and Isla Somar and their very exsistance is an ecological disaster waiting to happen.

Ordinarily I’d agree with you, but this isn’t exciting (at least to me) because Grant, Sadler, and Malcolm are characters I have strong nostalgia for, it’s exciting because Neill, Dern, and Goldblum are orders of magnitude better actors than anyone who’s been in the Jurassic World movies thus far.

I just hope they get to fight a dragon and some of those dino/human hybrid commandos from the Jurassic 4 script that never happened.

Will the talking raptor from the dream sequence in Jurassic Park 3 be back?

Dammit, why have you gotten this lovable, yet bone-headed character that you yourself just created’s Stallone-inflected, yet reptillically-dialected voice stuck in my head?

  • smaugtheunpretentious-av says:

Jeff Goldblum gunna get paid for an afternoon of filming sitting at a table again…

  • raymarrr-av says:

I’ll never forgive the franchise for breaking up Grant and Ellie, the greatest couple in sci-fi movie history.

This is a franchise that basically consists of the 1st movie and a bunch of mediocre to bad movies. How World became one of the top grossing films of all time is a huge mystery to me.

I hate to say it as a huge fan of the original movie and secret admirer of that crazy Gothic monster B movie third act of Fallen Kingdom but all three of these people are too good for what this franchise has become. It already sucks out all of Pratt’s goofball charisma and has no idea what to do with Dallas Howard.

I knew I couldn’t be the only one who liked that part of the movie. I don’t know what bump of cocaine I have to thank for the idea, “How about we switch the film into a Hammer Horror pastiche for the climax?”, but I’ll always be grateful.

I like Fallen Kingdom a lot. It’s a hell of a lot better than the Jurassic Park mixtape that was Jurassic World. How many times do they expect us to be wowed by seeing the same goddamn Jeep turn up? We get it. Jurassic Park had Jeeps.

Jurassic world movies have been a load of shite. The people who love those movies are fucking idiots. We only needed Jurassic park 1.

  • SEPaFan-av says:

Bonus points to the screenwriters if they can figure out a way for Dern to scream at some point, “I WILL NOT *NOT* BE A PALEOBOTANIST!”

    • jessicarozic1991-av says:

I don’t even want a remake – I want Laura Dern reading/screaming the entire script in a single sitting, including all stage directions and everyone elses lines.

  • sjfwhite-av says:

Isn’t it time for this series to go extinct?  Talk about “jumping the raptor”.

  • thants-av says:

We’re one for five on good Jurassic Park movies at this point, maybe it’s time to give it up.

  • igotlickfootagain-av says:

Goldblum is already shirtless in preparation.

  • jessicarozic1991-av says:

This is pretty cool. My Sam Neill crush hasn’t waivered; he’s old and still fine as hell. I hope this means they can cut Pratt loose, because he’s fucking terrible in these. I need Bryce to stick around though; I hope Dern tells her to lose the heels and gives her some combat boots and the four of them run around together. Throw in a Julianne Moore cameo for good measure!

Wierd random note: The produces of the James Bond films screen tested a lot of actors now famous for winning the Bond role or other things. All the screen tests were done by performing a bedroom scene from From Russia with Love. The movie featured a shirtless Sean Connery as did all the screen tests of other actors except Sam Neill who wore an unbuttoned button up shirt. I find this fascinating and I don’t know why.

      • jessicarozic1991-av says:

I find unbuttoned Sam Neill infinitely sexier than any other Bond they’ve had! (Though I have a soft spot for Pierce and those eyes)

At a recent screening of Jurassic World, Colin Trevorrow finally confirmed that Neill, Dern, and Goldblum would, in fact, be reprising their original roles in the upcoming sequel. If Colin Trevorrow is reprising his role of completely incompetent screenwriter, then these guys aren’t going to help no matter how hard they try.
