Poor Scooter. He spent years at the beck and call of the Muppets, getting everything from coffee to chicken feed as a production gofer. Just when it looked like he might be getting out for a career in tech, he was dragged back for the most recent Muppet films, and now he’s practically tethered to a haphazardly arranged computer desktop for Muppets Now, the gang’s latest foray into television. But as Scooter told us in a recent interview, he took the job because no one else wanted it. Who else, really, could deal with all of Miss Piggy’s notes, after all? That and more from Scooter are in the video above.

I guess that furry lawyer creature at the end was supposed to be a weasel (I think they’ve used the character before), but I thought at first that Fafa the groundhog from “Glove and Boots” had gotten himself a more lucrative gig.

Is that still a thing? I periodically checked out that channel until they stopped updating, then they came back and said “We’re gonna keep doing the same things, only now we’re rebranding as a Kids channel so the algorithm will get us more hits.”

Yes and no. They do nothing for months and then post a few videos in quick succession and then nothing more for months.

Sorry, I should have typed: How did you get the gig?Nobody wanted the gig.Wow, just like the 2008 DNC convention.I swear I watched the video before typing, I guess my memory’s slipping.

Ugh. I just have to accept the fact that all the actors who voiced the Muppets that I grew up with are gone and retired and I just… have to live with this weird simulacrums that look like the Muppets I know and love but don’t remotely sound like them.

Richard Hunt died in 1992 after having voiced Scooter for 15 years. The character was then retired for 16 years. David Rudman has voiced Scooter for 12 years (Brian Henson voiced him in the Muppets Christmas Carol). It’s a bit weird to call them a simulacrum when they’ve sounded like this for more than a decade.

Blame Disney for hanging onto the franchise for years and not knowing what the hell to do with it.

This was a wasted opportunity to finally get some answers on what happened to Skeeter.

    • erikveland-av says:

when asked about his sister during a 2015 Twitter Q&A, Scooter replied: “Skeeter is currently studying overseas. And if she ever reaches dry land, she’ll come visit.”

We need a Muppets True Detective mini series to get to the bottom of Skeeter’s disappearance. I mean people only study overseas for so long, Scooter is hiding something and we need to know the truth! Also Muppet Babies needs to be on streaming service. That was part of my childhood and I’d like to revisit the series to see if it still holds up.
