After six Scream movies and over twenty-five years, the question isn’t so much “Do you like scary movies?” as it is “Are you ready for another one?” The next installment in the self-referential slasher franchise takes Ghostface and his teen foes to New York City, where every bodega can become a battlefield.

In a new trailer, Sam (Melissa Barrera) and her sister Tara (Jenna Ortega) are in a new city but facing the exact same problem: a mysterious masked murderer tracking their every move. They’ve dealt with copycats before, but when a real threat returns, separating an innocuous Halloween costume from a killer ready to pounce makes a difficult task on a crowded evening subway.

Luckily, the sister duo has Scream 4 veteran Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere) and franchise staple Gale Weathers (Courtney Cox). “We share a certain history,” Kirby says to Gale and Sam with a knowing glance in one scene— they’ve all come toe to toe with Ghostface and lived to tell the tale.

However, the next film teases that not even veterans are safe. In one sequence, Gale has Ghostface’s knife at her throat, and appears to be thrown from a high balcony at one point. As the film’s tagline threatens, this is unlike any other Ghostface.

Although Scream VI is notably Neve Campbell-free (she stepped away from the project after a salary dispute), Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding are both back as Mindy and Chad; Dermot Mulroney, Henry Czerny, Samara Weaving, and Liana Liberato also join the cast. With less than two months to go until the premiere, pray for Gale Weathers. It’s what Dewey would want!

Scream VI lands in theaters on March 10, 2023.

I thought that part five was a logical conclusion to the series, but I’ll be damned if I’m not going to go see this one as well.

jeez, it sucks that they screwed over Neve Campbell, but this is a heck of cast for a sixth installment, and you didn’t even mention Tony Revolori. Weird, it always seems like Samara Weaving is about to break big and then she kind of shuttles back into supporting and character parts…I wonder if her resemblance to Margot Robbie hurts her a little.Btw, I def want to see a bodega cat take out ghostface.

    Looks different and really good.

Didn’t we JUST have another one of these last year? They’re really cranking them out. I guess they’re not hard to shoot.

There’s actually more time between 5 and 6 than there was between 1 and 2. And there was actually a plan for 6, unlike 2.Not to mention the 11 years between 3 and 4 and then 4 and 5.

      • ghboyette-av says:

6 wasn’t greenlit until a month after Scream 5 came out, and casting definitely wasn’t set. As for Scream 2, Williamson already had a treatment ready while he was writing the first one, so that one was actually planned for, unlike 6. I want this to be good, but the rushed production to capitalize on the momentum of the first gives me pause.

Scream 2 didn’t get a greenlight until 3 months after the premier of Scream, so if that’s your barometer for levels planning, you’ll need to readjust it.  And it is well documented that whatever the original plan for Scream 2 was did not end up being the final product.

Untrue. There are several Scream 2 drafts that have been available online, and the movie changed GREATLY from draft to draft.

In fact, there’s a draft of S2 that ends with Sidney and Cotton Weary stabbing each other to death.

Wow, you’re right. They really rushed that first sequel out quick.

i can’t remember if it was ‘i know what you did last summer’ or ‘scream’, but one of them had the trailer for the sequel on the vhs, instantly spoiling who lived and died.

    “VI ask VI”?

The graphic designer who came up with that logo using the VI in the M derserves a raise.

KIRBY! Best part of S4. But I thought she got killed???

    • gargsy-av says:

Stabbed, but there was no body.

    • cartagia-av says:

She got stabbed once in the stomach and left for dead outside the house. The original ending was meant to be much more ambiguous and leave breadcrumbs that either she or Sidney survived (the hospital finale was not present originally).

  • usernameorwhatever-av says:

If they’re smart, they should really lean into the Internet fan theory that the Neve Campbell thing was a stunt and Sydney is the killer. I genuinely hope that’s not the case as it would be absurd, but enough people believe it that them coyly hinting at it in the marketing can only help.Anyway, I just hope they don’t bring that stupid Ghost Billy nonsense from 5 back.

  • neanderthalbodyspray-av says:

Melissa Barrera is not the greatest of actors, but the rest of the cast is terrific. So I’m guessing it’s a Dermot and Samara team up this time.
