An incredibly distressing video has emerged that appears to corroborate a number of claims recording artist Cassie Ventura made against her ex-partner, Sean “Diddy” Combs, in a suit she filed last November. The video was obtained by CNN and can be watched here, although be aware that it is quite graphic.

In the footage, dated March 5, 2016 and taken from several security cameras at the InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles (which Ventura named in her complaint), Cassie appears to walk down a hallway before Combs chases her with a towel wrapped around his waist. The rapper appears to grab Ventura by the back of her neck and throw her to the ground, before kicking her several times as she lays motionless on the floor. He then drags her into a room by her sweatshirt before walking away. Ventura proceeds to pick herself up before Combs returns, shoves her into a corner, and then appears to throw an object he grabs off a nearby table in her direction.

This incident is described in detail in Ventura’s lawsuit, which the two settled one day after it was filed last year. Combs became “extremely intoxicated and punched Ms. Ventura in the face, giving her a black eye,” the filing reads, explaining how he “followed her into the hallway of the hotel while yelling at her” and “grabbed at her, and then took glass vases in the hallway and threw them at her, causing glass to crash around them as she ran to the elevator to escape.”

“Upon realizing that her running away would cause Mr. Combs to be even angrier with her, and completely stuck in his vicious cycle of abuse, Ms. Ventura returned to the hotel with the intention of apologizing for running away from her abuser,” the suit continues, before suggesting that hotel staff urged her to go home, having seen the security footage. It also alleges that Combs paid the hotel $50,000 for the footage, among other horrific details from the years of alleged physical and sexual abuse that Ventura was subjected to.

“The gut-wrenching video has only further confirmed the disturbing and predatory behavior of Mr. Combs. Words cannot express the courage and fortitude that Ms. Ventura has shown in coming forward to bring this to light,” said her lawyer, Douglas H. Wigdor, in a statement (via CNN).

Combs is currently facing more legal trouble from a slew of subsequent lawsuits from multiple victims alleging assault, harassment, grooming, intimidation, threats of violence, and trafficking. These are still ongoing. In March, Homeland Security raided Combs’ properties in L.A. and Miami as a part of their investigation, which his attorney called “a gross overuse of military-level force.” He continues to maintain his innocence. It was also reported today (via People) that Combs’ alleged drug mule, Brendan Paul (age 25), accepted a plea deal and will avoid jail time in connection to a trafficking case.

It’s truly satisfying to see someone who is such a piece of shit getting caught redhanded after so righteously claiming their innocence.

I think the video serves as an important reminder to hesitate before doing the kind of logical nitpicking that often happens in these cases. I could certainly imagine people going, “Wait, you’re saying P Diddy managed to run down a hallway at a fancy hotel, grab a woman, and kick her twice, all while wearing a towel? Come on!” Yep, that’s what happened.

American culture celebrates violent criminals as “ghetto Robin Hoods” and rap music more often than not glorifies it. Everyone in Combs’ orbit knew these allegations were true going all the way back and every one of them has covered for him.  Celebrity and influence breed complicity. Please spare me the feigned surprise and moral grandstanding. He’s exactly who we wanted him to be. We made this man a platinum star, a millionaire, for telling us how much of a Bad Boy he is. Hypocritical to look down our noses at him now when we find out he really is.

Regrettably, I watched the video. This guy is fucking toast.

    She must not have voted.

Welp, that (almost assuredly) wraps that up.

I’m not easily shocked but watched the video and said “Oh my God” multiple times. Absolutely at Ray Rice levels. I’m glad there’s actual evidence to potentially put this guy away, after the sheer number of allegations against him which suggest he’s a true scourge on the music industry.

That’s absolutely horrifying. It makes me wonder, what are the chances charges will be filled for the hotel selling incriminating footage to the perpetrator?

    • xirathi-av says:

None. Hush payments are legal. The footage is the hotel’s property to “sell”. As long as there’s no financial fraud involved, it’s legal.

I was wondering the same thing. I don’t think she called the police and so it’s likely no one ever asked for the footage.  Otherwise, if L&O has taught me anything, there would be exposure for hindering an investigation (thanks Ice-T!)

What I’d like to know is, how did the people at the hotel see this and not call the police? No charges were filed by anyone until she did something about it last year? What the hell happened?

Another example to remind people, be careful with that hero worship of someone you really don’t know.

Besides jail time, I would also like Diddy to be punished by digitally removing him from all the songs he produced.I can’t even listen to Hipnotize because of all of the “Interrupting Diddy” moments. He’s even worse than “Active Listener Timbaland”(Uh-huh, uh-huh, uh, uh, yeah, uh-huh, oh really, uh, wow interesting, yeah)
