The second half of 2023 upon us, which means film lovers can look forward to plenty of plenty of options in the next six months. Yes, there will be more blockbusters, including The Hunger Games prequel The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes, the highly anticipated superheroine-filled The Marvels, and director Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two. But even more exciting are the big-budget, big-name dramas that could be the talk of awards season, including Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, Ridley Scott’s Napoleon, David Fincher’s The Killer and Martin Scorsese’s Killers Of The Flower Moon. The latter three are heavily indebted to streamers for either their production costs or their distribution, which used to be the sign of the apocalypse. But if the streamers continue to bankroll prestige projects by world class directors, who are we to complain? So whether you’ll be watching in a movie theater (everyone’s first choice) or at home, the remainder of 2023 promises to contain an entertaining assortment of titles.

Insidious: The Red Door Final Trailer (2023)

Release Date: July 7 (in theaters only)Starring: Patrick Wilson, Ty SimpkinsDirector: Patrick WilsonApparently, didn’t lock the door on Insidious films. Can’t blame the studio when The Last Key scared up nearly $168 million against a $10 million budget. Fear The Dark finds Josh Lambert’s (Patrick Wilson) son Dalton (Ty Simpkins) away at college. Sounds like a good thing for father and son, and it is, until Dalton’s repressed demons turn up to torment them both. At this point, nobody knows the Insidious universe better than Wilson, so it’s quite appropriate that he’ll make his feature directing debut with . [Ian Spelling]

The Adobe Camera Raw Clarity slider is a privilege, not a right. Also, sweet! A DC movie based on one of its practically unknown properties that was original Made For TV! What could possibly go wrong?!

I was on quite the emotional journey with Barbie. From decidedly not for me, this is dumb to now being fully aboard the hype train. This has only been reinforced by the few clips that have just started floating around. It’s so dumb and I love it.

The comparison to The Brady Bunch Movie seems incredibly apt. I knew it’d be an ironic, postmodern take on the material from the moment Gerwig was announced as the director, but I was still wholly unprepared for what the trailer showcased.

It seems to be doing that thing where it mocks the hell out of a concept while at the same time not actually pissing off actual fans of it. That’s a hard thing to do. I remember the 21 Jump Street movie. I liked it because I always hated the TV show and the movie points out all the flaws of the concept. But at the same time people like my brother who liked the series still found the movie funny.

So that Strays movie was just some exec watching those clips on Tik Tok where they give dogs and cats inner monologs right?  I mean it looks kinda funny and I bet its entertaining when it hits a streaming service I either get for free or already pay for and I can watch it at home drunk/high/bothThe new Ninja turtles movie looks silly and fun.Why does Zendaya in the Dune trailer bug me so much?  She looks like a fucking bad ass in that Challengers movie.   Also why didn’t they throw an totally nerdy Easter Egg into the mix and not name the movie Dune 2: The Building of a Dynasty

Strays definitely looks like a comedy that’ll wear thin after five minutes: oh, look, here’s a cute, happy, upbeat, naive terrier – and someone just said “fucking dog” at him and he doesn’t understand, lol!R-rated comedies are very hit and miss, because they can lean into “Yeah, we say ‘fuck’ a lot”. (Coming To America got rated R pretty much only for “The Royal Penis is clean”, although I think it was only M down here.)

Considering everything that’s happening with AI in the real world, a sci-fi film about a future war between humanity and sentient robots might be a little too on the nose. This is functionally no different from saying “Considering everything that’s happening with climate change in the real world, 2012 by Roland Emmerich might be a little too on the nose.” Conflating what we call AI today with what looks like a better version of Terminator: Salvation is the kind of sloppy writing I have come to expect from this site.

The most anticipated movies for the second half of 2023Oh cool!directed by David Yates, who gave us four Harry Potter films and three Fantastic Beasts epics. So yeah that’s not what I’d call “anticipated.” Or “epics.”

No Poor Things? That movie looks wild.

  • avcham-av says:

Asider from DUNE 2, the only current trailer that interests me is Lanthimos’ POOR THINGS.

‘Maybe Snyder finally has something more on his mind than loud noises and pummeling action.’……also, maybe not…

  • bashbash99-av says:

wow, all those movies and yet Marvels is probably the only one i’ll end up seeing in the theater.  not really a knock on the movies, just that there’s not much that will actually get me to go see a movie these days I suppose.

Exorcist II isn’t a direct sequel? Same girl, same demon, complete shite but … it’s a direct sequel, fella.
