It’s been frustrating to watch things get shitty again, hasn’t it? There was a brief, beautiful moment when it seemed like we were coming out of the COVID-19 woods, and then a bunch of anti-mask/anti-vaccine dipshits had to ruin it with their misguided nonsense, hastening the entrance of the Delta variant and pushing us all back to our same isolating behaviors from the past year and a half. We’ve said it a lot over the course of the pandemic, but it bears repeating: Thank god for music, right? It’s helped keep a lot of us sane, and if we have to mask up and flash our laminated vaccination cards at the door to enjoy seeing our favorite artists live again, then so be it. Better still, another new month means another bevy of awesome new releases, from slowcore legends like Low to thrilling new rock bands such as Sincere Engineer. So take a look and a listen to the things we’re most looking forward to this month—there’s more than enough to satisfy fans of all genres and sounds.

Julien Baker’s Little Oblivions is , so it’s no surprise that her new EP of remixes should be of immediate interest. A five-song collection of tracks from the album, these numbers are reworked and transformed by artists as diverse as art-pop maestro Half Waif, ambient electronic musician Helios, folktronica artist Gordi, shoegaze-core titan Jesu, and Thao Nguyen from Thao And The Get Down Stay Down. Each approaches the task in their own unique way, leading to a bold new interpretation of music from one of our finest contemporary songwriters. [Alex McLevy]

Very excited to hear Andrew WK go darker. I also like that his idea of darker is Ronnie James Dio. It’s really just perfect.

I feel like his issue has never been lack of flexibility, it’s been that his party anthems have never come close to being as good as they were on the first album. You can branch out, but you need to remain good at what you’re known for.

exactly what I thought of. At first the chuggy riffs made me worry at where it was going but it went somewhere I approve of.  I love his Ramones-but-Heavier party rock but this shit’s cool too.

reminder that andrew wk is a self described “centrist libertarian” who hangs out in alt right circles, appears regularly on hyperconservatuve and alt-right tv and radio shows, is best friends with the founder of the proud boys, has associated with white supremacist musical acts, is a vocal supporter of and has appeared on breitbartso i personally would probably not be showcasing his stuff at this point

Every person I know thinks Andrew WK is a rad dude, but I’ve yet to meet anyone who legitimately, unironically likes his music. It’s objectively bad. His “party hard” era is just as bad as his “dark industrial” era, but in very different ways. All the same, I wish him success.

Little Simz is so fucking good, one of the most reliable rappers going today all the new Angels & Airwaves singles have been surprisingly great, catchy and well-written stuff. I’m anticipating that album the most this month
