Hot Ones is a place for hot gossip, and the latest guest Shakira just dropped a spicy tidbit: she loves Family Guy. She loves Family Guy so much, she reached out to creator Seth MacFarlane to help out with a translation of her 2009 hit “She Wolf.” The track was released in Spanish under the title “Loba,” but apparently the Colombian artist felt like she could use MacFarlane’s pen for the English-language version.

“I was a huge Family Guy fan and I always thought that he was so creative and so musical as well,” the singer told host Sean Evans. “I really admire the musical production of the show. So I looked for him, but then I ended up writing it myself. I found the right words, I found what I wanted to say.”

Shakira previously spoke about this very random almost-collaboration with Billboard back in 2023. “I wasn’t too sure about me writing the lyrics in English, and I reached out to Sia, and I asked her to write the lyrics in English for me,” she told the outlet, which makes sense! Outside of her own hits, Sia has written songs for stars like Rihanna, Beyoncé, Britney Spears, and a host of other artists. (Sia would go on to pen “Chasing Shadows” from Shakira’s self-titled 2014 album as well as “Try Everything” from the Zootopia soundtrack.) However, “I also reached out to Seth MacFarlane,” she added. “So I called him and said, ‘Seth, can you write some lyrics for ‘She Wolf’? I wasn’t very sure that I was able to write lyrics for the song. And they tried, they took a crack at them. But I ended up writing the entire lyrics… by the end of the day, it was all me.”

The ironic part of this piece of trivia is that two years before She Wolf, one of the “musical productions” in Family Guy was about how Stewie would like to murder Shakira’s lyricist. That song, “I’ve Got A Little List,” was cut from the episode that aired on TV (“Lois Kills Stewie”) but was preserved on DVD. Did Shakira know that MacFarlane had previously insulted her pen? Was her request for an English translation really a challenge to see if he could do any better? (Clearly, his version didn’t live up to her standards, since she ended up doing the job herself.) The world may never know the truth—but maybe we should start a campaign to #ReleaseTheMacFarlaneCut of “She Wolf” just to see what he was cooking.
