Shocking new survey reveals people want to see Star Wars and The Hunger Games

Science has given us a lot over the years, from vaccines and water filtration technology to iPhones and whatever the McRib is made out of, but some discoveries are so monumental and unexpected that they shake the entire human race to its very core. This is not one of those discoveries, but that’s probably because it’s the result of a survey about how people feel about this year’s upcoming movies. Even without reading the headline up above, anybody could probably guess what movies people are most looking forward to this year, and no, they’re not Pan and Burnt—but more on them later.

This comes from Variety, which says the aforementioned survey was conducted by Piedmont Media Research. It polled 3,000 people about the movies that are coming out this fall and then scored and ranked the movies based on people’s responses. Unsurprisingly, the top two scorers were The Hunger Games: Mockingjay—Part 2 (with 514 points) and Star Wars: The Force Awakens (with 495), with the former setting the record for highest number of survey points ever and the latter taking the spot for third-highest number of points. The other movies with the highest scores are similarly unsurprising, with The Martian, Spectre, and Hotel Transylvania 2 all scoring above the 250-point mark (which Piedmont says is where “big-budget films” need to score “if they want to be successful”).

On the low end of Piedmont’s scale are Peter Pan origin story Pan and Bradley Cooper’s chef movie Burnt, along with Steve Jobs and the Jem And The Holograms adaptation (both of which are about people who become famous performers thanks to computers). Michael Fassbender’s Macbeth and James McAvoy’s Victor Frankenstein also didn’t do very well, though Variety doesn’t say their exact scores. Still, despite what we said earlier, this whole thing doesn’t sound super scientific, so there’s still a chance all of these movies—yes, even Jem—will turn out to be bigger hits than Star Wars. It’s not a big chance, but you never know what’ll happen.
