Quick, you’ve just been put in charge of Paramount+ With Showtime (the premium cable platform formerly known as Showtime), and you have to come up with the titles for as many spin-offs of his drama Billions as you can in the next 15 seconds. Go! Go! Go!

Alright, if you wrote down “Millions” and/or “Trillions,” congratulations! You have what it takes to be the next Paramount+ With Showtime executive! Those are indeed two of the Billions spin-offs that P+WS has in the works, in addition to Billions: Miami and Billions: London (bonus points if you wrote either of those down). Weirdly, they all sound like completely different shows, save for the all-important inclusion of mega-rich people doing bad things.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Millions will be about “diverse thirtysomething financial mogul wannabes doing whatever it takes to make it in Manhattan,” and Trillions will be a soapy drama telling “fictional stories of the richest people in the world” (fictional rich people, we assume). Billions: Miami will specifically be about “the world of private aviation,” which is a wild decision, and then Billions: London sounds like it will just be Billions but set in London.

But P+WS isn’t stopping at expanding just one of its bigger franchises: The THR story also says that the network is developing a follow-up to Dexter sequel series New Blood that will focus more on his son, Harrison, as well as a Dexter prequel series called Dexter: Origins that’s all about… Dexter’s origins. It’s just like Dexter, but the actors will probably all be different and it takes place before all the stuff that nobody liked! Basically, P+WS is leaning into what works, and—as THR notes—what it owns outright, which means not paying licensing fees to anyone else.

“The THR story also says that the network is developing a follow-up to Dexter sequel series New Blood that will focus more on his son, Harrison”Last week New Blood was cancelled though? I don’t care the whole thing was pretty much trash…except for Dexter’s hunting style, that was legit goddamn hilarious. Full out sprinting through the woods with your rifle until you get within 20 feet of a deer is certainly a way of hunting.

Anyone seen that Verizon commercial with Giamatti playing Einstein?  So cringe.

Hundreds – the story of a diverse group of twenty and thirtysomethings who’ve just received their tax refund.

Why is this gonna be a thing? Who gives a f*ck about Harrison?

    • retort-av says:

Realistically his half siblings, Quinn, and his adopted mother

I thought the actor did a pretty good job with the role. Could have ended up a hated, spoiled brat like Tariq in Power, but even THAT has had success as a spinoff. The only thing is, I’m not sure how they make a series out of Harrison, because the whole premise of the finale was that he’s NOT like his father.

The only way I’d watch more Dexter is if they retconned the last terrible season(8) and continued in Miami with the old cast. Kill off Hannah(worst character ever) and then continue as usual with Dex & Deb going after bad guys on their respective sides of the law.

Such a shame they’ll go ahead with these silly spin-offs, but they won’t make a second season of Let The Right One In.

Dexter: Origins that’s all about… Dexter’s origins. Uh… I think the original series kind of covered this? Harry’s code, etc.? Am I missing something?

    • retort-av says:

It could be about how dexter’s brother became a serial killer. Or dexter when he was starting out trying to figure out the code and killing. Might get to see a young Doakes

    • cuzned-av says:

Yeah, but we never got see him kill small animals – we only saw that Harry was disappointed the he had.
We’re in for some gritty cat murderin’. Oh boy…..?

Is James Remar busy? He has to be cast in the Dexter prequel.

  • blpppt-av says:

Billions: Miami and Billions: LondonSo, basically they’re turning it into NCIS and CSI.I agree with the author–the plots of those two shows don’t seem to have anything remotely in common with the Billions mothership—-its like Show/Para took two random shows on the drawing board and slapped the Billions label on them because they sort of have something to do with people and money.

I really don’t get the idea to make Billions into a franchise. The entire appeal of the series is the leads. They’d be better off just making another show where Lewis faces off with Giamatti in a different situation.

  • anathanoffillions-av says:

Wow there are enough denominations that they gave me my own spinoff!Sawbucks

  • cuzned-av says:

The wife and i loved Dexter: New Blood and treated it as old-style appointment viewing (ask your grandparents).
    But was it… “good”…? Hmm.

Spinoffs of Billions make less sense. Because what’s great about the series isn’t the lifestyles of the rich n’ famous – that show only works because of the cast. Put just about anybody other than Giamatti and Lewis in those lead roles, and you’ve got yourself exactly zero viewers. It helps that they then filled in around them with even more excellent players.

  • TRT-X-av says:

Those Billions spinoffs all sound like a parody. Give me a gritty version of “Bonding” based on one of Giamatti’s mistresses.
