Showtime wants a piece of Jerry Bruckheimer’s American Gigolo

Aux Features TV

Deadline reports that Jerry Bruckheimer has sold his American Gigolo TV show to Showtime. Based on Paul Schrader’s 1980 film, the show would be set in the present day, and follow the life of a high-priced male prostitute making his way through the glitzy culture of modern day L.A.

Playwright Neil LaBute is set to pen the project, with Bruckheimer and Paramount TV producing. The original American Gigolo was a major turning point in the career of star Richard Gere, introducing him to the world in the form of its fashionable, vain, and clothing-optional title character, Julian Kaye.
