Smoke pot, get superpowers in Craig Robinson and Andy Samberg's new comedy Super High
Aux Features FilmAs far as we know, the only superpower that smoking weed grants you in the real world is the ability to quiet the constant, screaming anxiety that otherwise deafens all extant forms of human interaction or thought. (That’s not just us, right?) Not so in the world of Andy Samberg and Craig Robinson’s new comedy film—titled, first-draft, best-draft-style, Super High, obviously—in which the two actors will indulge in a fantasy where getting high also makes you a superhero.
This is per Variety, which reports that Samberg and Robinson will both produce and star in the film, from Barry screenwriter Adam Mansbach. (That’s “Young Barack Obama movie” Barry, not “Bill Hader murders people” Barry, by the way.) Common will co-star in the film, presumably as another regular pot-smoker/superpowered individual.
Anyway: New stoner comedy about Jake Peralta, Doug Judy, and the second-coolest killer from John Wick: Chapter 2 teaming up (or maybe fighting each other) with superpowers. What’s not to like?

Now I want a show where Barack Obama, a highly-skilled assassin, goes to Washington on a job and accidentally stumbles into politics.
Barrybama?
Barry Obama , the student who fought Gorilla Grodd in the 80s?
Don’t sleep on Barry O.
How is Seth Rogen not involved in this?
Can’t wait to not be able to see because it’s on a streaming channel I do not have
Thank goodness for piracy.
There was a tv series with the exact same premise. It was called High & Mighty and Carlos Lopez Estrada directed it. It was …. not good.
Well, it sounds like a hacky premise but these two are great so I’m in.
I bet Common plays an assassin. He tends to play assmen. Excuse me, assasins.
Oh boy. There are going to be at least three instances of Craig Robinson playing keyboard and doing some really mediocre, unfunny singing in this movie.
Man does the first sentence of this article hit. What a superpower it is though.
Remember the times when everyone treated Andy Samberg as a joke, and then the joke was on us when he grew up to make a bunch of great movies and also marry Joanna Newsom? Those were good times.
Oh, and obligatory:
I was very anti-Samburg so much that refused to watch Hot Rod, but after my friend finally convinced me to give it a try, it became one of my all time favorites and I have always been willing give Samburg a chance on everything, to mostly positive results.
It has some warts but I will always love the premise that the hero only wants to raise money to keep his stepdad alive so he can eventually beat the shit out of him.
“Frank, I’m going to get you better, you old sack of shit, and then I’m going to uncork the ass beating of a lifetime on you! And you will respect me! Peace!”
Hot Rod is legitimately one of the best comedies of the last 20 years
I think the usual pot comedy is best done by younger comedians but maybe this will be something with a little more to it.
There better be a Cheech & Chong cameo
This could very easily have been some generic Seth Rogen stoner thing, but I trust Samberg to bring some wacky idiocy to this
