The adult-oriented Easter eggs in Disney films range from false to debatable to very, very real. But, regardless of credibility, there’s enough of them out there to indicate the House of Mouse’s animators are extremely horny. And, if we’re to believe the latest Disney conspiracy theory, they’re also sadistic as all hell.

Just check out the video below, which has gone viral for asking the chilling question of what, exactly, happened to the body of Simba’s dad, Mufasa, The Lion King. Per this reading, the film’s antagonist, Scar, did much more to his brother than just kill him.

The video quickly sent other users down rabbit holes of their own, with some agreeing with the theory and others asserting it’s simply not supported by anatomical science:

For our money, there’s one gaping hole in this theory. It hinges on the fact that, in real life, hyenas don’t eat lions—therefore the characters of Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed couldn’t have possibly devoured Mufasa’s corpse, as we’re led to believe. But, as the end of the film shows us, in the world of The Lion King hyenas very much do eat lions. Remember what happens to Scar?

And that realization hasn’t been lost on other potential debunkers:

Regardless, it’s a fun video if only for his deadpan reactions, and the thread reveals other Easter eggs like the one below, proving yet again that the Disney universe is one truly fucked up place.

I feel like this is what the MST3K Mantra was meant to be invoked for. This is a movie based loosely on a combination of Bambi and Hamlet about talking lions who rule the animal kingdom based on a variation on the Divine Right of Kings except it’s totally real in-story. When we try to overthink the movie like this it leads to Disney making live action remakes that think they have to over-explain every crucial detail until there’s none of the magic that was in the original remains.

I assume this was done at least partially in the spirit of “We all know this is ridiculous, but what the hell…”  Then again, that was the media’s attitude toward Trump’s candidacy, and look where that got us.

His body was probably either eaten by the hyenas or some other carnivore, then the remains picked over by any nearby vultures.

  • robert-denby-av says:

I mean there are at least three species of carrion vultures scavenging in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Lions are apex predators, so there’s no animal that preys on lions (which is what the google search results in the video seem to refer to). But there are tons of animals that will happily eat a Lion’s carcass. IIRC Hyenas are specifically adapted to eating carrion.

        Crocodiles prey on lions.
As a side note, it’s not a true predator situation, but Hippos most likely have killed and earen them too. They mostly eat plants but they supplement their diet with opportunistic kills of large animals, and based on reports of hippos killing lions, it’s pretty likely they snack on the carcasses after a victory from time to time.Meat eating by large herbivores has turned out to be more common than people used to think — whitetail deer, for example, kill and eat rabbits and other small mammals. Large prey is a problem for deer because their teeth aren’t good for slicing through fur and hide, but that’s not going to be problem for hippos if they feel like it.

People do not have enough appreciation for how much a hippo can fuck shit up when it wants to.

I think Narcos referenced this a bit, but Pablo Escobar had a zoo with a few hippos. After his death they escaped and now there’s a hoarde of invasive hippos roaming around Cuba.

            Colombia, not Cuba.

          • medacris-av says:

Columbia, sorry. Had a brain fart.

          • send-in-the-drones-av says:

Just didn’t want you to feel unreasonably safe from hippo attack in Colombia with full confidence they were in Cuba.

          • send-in-the-drones-av says:

My favorite hippo observation is they can swim faster than most people, can run faster than most people, and that leaves only bicycles as an advantage for humans in the Ironman Triathalon. /s because they would be disqualified for lack of clothing.

And what about the African swallow or the European swallow?

    • bc222-av says:

Right? This just ignores that things called “scavengers” exist.

He lost me when he was subtitled as “accept” instead of “except.” Do YouTubers write their own subtitles? I’m old and don’t know how it works.

He became grass, he said so himself. Of course the hyenas probably ate and crapped him out first. Then again the lions might do something with their kings.

  • dirtside-av says:

“hyenas don’t eat lions”Hyenas probably rarely, if ever, hunt lions, but they’ll sure as hell eat a carcass if they find one. Plus there are other scavengers, like vultures, that will eat a lion carcass.I’m perfectly fine with delving into the minutiae of movie plot elements like this; it’s good clean fun, as long as no one takes it too seriously. But when your “OMG THIS WILL BLOW YOUR MIND” moment is predicated on something that is factually false, you just end up looking like an idiot.

    • triohead-av says:

Plus, uh… Mufasa was trampled to death by a wildebeest stampede, I doubt his skull survived completely intact.

  • weirdstalkersareweird-av says:

God I love this. All of it.

  • stephdeferie-av says:

this is all a moo point as the movie is such a fantasy from the beginning where all the animals that are hunted & eaten by the lions are shown to be so excited to have a new baby lion amongst them.  you lose me there, disney.

  • medacris-av says:

Hercules is wearing Scar’s skin as a reference to Andres Deja, the animator who animated both.

I think Hercules did wear a lion pelt in the original stories, too.
