(Actor: Served; P-Valley)“I’ve been stuck with my streaming for so long during this pandemic…so a good action-thriller movie is necessary for my return to the theater this summer. It’s a toss up for me…between the re-re-release of Korean film Hard Sit, Jordan Peele’s thriller Nope, or rooting for my friend Brian Tyree Henry all while witnessing the wild mission on board Bullet Train. Either way, summer 2022 has some heat in store and I’m here for it.”

This is what you moved from Chicago to LA for, right? No need to look “forward” to Dual, as it was released in April.

Seriously. Thanks, AV Club, for finally offering celebrities a chance to weigh in in on which corporate sister properties they’d like to cross-promote. Who knows how they’d get the word out otherwise?

So Eskil Vogt’s The Innocents is not a remake of Jack Clayton’s 1961 The Innocents. Good, I guess. But why give it the same name? Now dorks like me will have to try to explain this needless complication when recommending Clayton’s film as the masterpiece it is. “It’s not the same story. Vogt’s film may be great, but The Innocents you need to see is based on Henry James’ ‘Turn of the Screw’ in which a crazy governess thinks kids are in league with the supernatural. The kids in Vogt’s film are actually supernatural. Don’t roll your eyes.”

Was anyone else surprised to see three people namecheck Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers in this list? It does look like it’ll be fun, but I assumed people actually within the industry would have a laundry list of big-screen, big-idea films they were anticipating.

Not really, as much as it seems easy to write it off as yet another meta wank job, more that anything it feels like the most adult and subversive thing Disney has put the Disney name on in a very long time.I watched the trailers a couple times, this movie is very clearly not aimed at kids, and more than anything they’ve put out since Disney+ was announced, or even before that, this one feels like evidence that they’re willing to let people try some genuinely weird stuff again.

Now I am disappointed that I will watch Nope, but will not in all likelihood get to watch it with Melanie Lynskey
