Farewell, Sharon Stone. Another star with an alliterative name has taken over the role as a villain in Warner Bros. Discovery’s Blue Beetle film. The Wrap reports that Thelma and Louise star Susan Sarandon has been officially cast as Victoria Kord—who Sharon Stone was previously in talks to play—a mysterious character created just for this film.

Though she doesn’t appear in the comics, there’s at least one hint to Sarandon’s character’s connection to the film’s titular hero Jaime Reyes AKA Blue Beetle. Before El Paso teenager Jaime Reyes took on the moniker, a guy by the name of Ted Kord held the title of Blue Beetle. He even had a power-hungry uncle, who Ted would go on and stop from taking over the world. There’s the possibility that Sarandon’s Victoria Kord could be a gender-bent version of Ted’s uncle, setting up an appearance for the bug suit’s previous wearer to meet Jaime.

Blue Beetle will star Cobra Kai’s Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes, a teenager who happens across alien tech called the Blue Beetle Scarab. In a mix of horror and a coming-of-age story, the scarab fuses to Jaime’s spine, giving him an exo-skeleton of armor that he fights crime in as the Blue Beetle. This marks the first time that a Latino character will be the lead of a live-action superhero film.

Starring alongside Maridueña is George Lopez (George Lopez), Harvey Guillén (What We Do In The Shadows), Raoul Max Trujillo (Riddick), Elpidia Carrillo (Predator), Adriana Barraza, Bruna Marquezine, Damián Alcázar, and Belissa Escobedo.

Angel Manuel Soto (The Farm) will direct the DC superhero film, with a script written by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer (Miss Bala). John Rickard, Zev Foreman, David Siegel and Walter Hamada will join as producers.

Originally destined to premiere on HBO Max, Blue Beetle is set to release theatrically August 18, 2023.

Decent people should spit on the sidewalk when she walks by. Fuck her and any project she’s in.

What the hell did she do?

She opposed Hillary Clinton, saying that she would be more dangerous than Trump as President and, as someone else quoted elsewhere, suggested that Trump being elected would galvanize liberals and moderates to the point of “revolution”.Obviously it hasn’t worked out that way, and people can debate endlessly about whether Clinton would have done more to advance liberal causes while in power than Bernie and the Squad have done in opposition to Trump. IMHO, her 2016 election opinions are somewhere between “risky” and “stupid”, but, as with 99% of internet reactions, I think the vitriol directed at her is somewhat extreme.

          Big whoop

It’s obvious she would have been stopped from doing much meaningful by the Republican congress and senate but conversely, she could have stopped them from doing a lot by veto and that at least I count as a win.The dilemma is, though whether her being the president would have led to the Republicans ending up with congress, the senate and the presidency in 2020. There have been no good outcomes for a while now.

He got three Supreme Court judges. That alone made her bullshit a bad thing. Fucking tired of barren rich cunts who can afford whatever care they need for their granddaughters determining my daughters’ reproductive futures

Do you seriously think she would have gotten any through, though? The Republicans have proven they have no shame for years now, I have no doubt they would have blocked everything for as long as it took for her to be out of office regardless of optics and how shamefully hypocritical it looked.

There have been no good outcomes for a while now.I despair of there ever being good outcomes again.

“Some people feel that Donald Trump will bring the revolution
immediately, if he gets in. Then things will really, you know, explode,”

Yeah, you can’t say she hasn’t been auditioning for the role of villain for a while now.

It seems like people generally assume that societies are most susceptible to tyranny when things are bad, but it seems like the last two elections have gone the opposite way: we elected Trump when things were relatively good and then when we had an actual catastrophe we elected Biden.

Yup. I might have watched this movie, but not now.

To be honest, this is to me the biggest shock. That there hasn’t been an effort to put Jamie Reyes on screen yet or that CW!DC didn’t do anything with this character. Don’t get me wrong, kind of glad about it as man those CW shows, but still.Just the initial storyarc and all the fun stuff with the scarab feels like one of the easier transitions.

He guest starred in an episode of Smallville. They tried to do a series about him around the time Arrow started but it didn’t progress.

Miguel is so perfect for the role that I’m kinda happy it took this long.

Hard pass. Her type of white lady activism is a disaster for my people.

  • evanwaters-av says:

Lot of people in this thread convinced Susan Sarandon actually caused Donald Trump to become President

    • milligna000-av says:

Name one person who thinks that. I just think she’s an out of touch moron with incredibly naive political views. Plus I haven’t seen a fun performance out of her in a very long time. Limo revolutionaries are just tedious.

Obviously Susan Sarandon thought she could make a difference in the election, or she wouldn’t have campaigned for Stein.

tuned in to the animated Blue Beetle and he’s super fresh. Sarandon’s non-controversial and cool, right?
