Jason Sudeikis’ award-winning performance as football coach Ted Lasso in Apple TV+’s comedy Ted Lasso has landed him a spot in the FIFA 21 tournament.

Hosted by Twitch streamer Castro 1021 for EASPORTSFIFA, this face-off is pairing celebrities with pro players to compete for a $25,000 prize pool for charity. Notably, Sudeikis is playing along with his co-star Brendan Hunt but the two are actually appearing in character as longtime friends Ted Lasso and Coach Beard.

Sudeikis and Hunter are joined by The Daily Show’s Trevor Noah. The first part of this competition was broadcast on March 19 and is continuing on March 26 on the EA Sports Twitch Channel. They are joined by NFG Lisa, Futheda, Dux Graveson, and Cory_B.

The live event is now over, but you can check it out in perpetuity here:

i’m sure the 5 people who have apple TV+ are very happy about this

If you’re going to get Apple TV, Ted Lasso is the reason to do it.

I got a free year of it because I bought an ipad. It’s a weird service. It’s kind of familiar but also weirdly “off”, like watching TV from an alternate universe or maybe Canada.

        • kinjabitch69-av says:

“…or maybe Canada”. That’s gonna be my default answernow  to things I’m not sure about!

“Hey baby, I thought maybe we’d spice up our sex life by adding this hot guy from work as a third, what do you think?” “…idk sounds kind of, you know, Canadian”

        • Velops-av says:

This reminds me of going to visit relatives as a kid and noticing how the same TV networks are on different channels.

        • dremiliolizardo-av says:

We have it for the same reason.  I suspect that’s the majority of their subscribers.

        • drips-av says:

You guys can buy beer in basically any grocery store or gas station, yet can’t drink until you’re 21. Yeah, and we’re the weird ones, OKAY

      • mullets4ever-av says:

i would love to watch it, i’ve heard nothing but good stuff and the clips i’ve seen look great. but it is a significant ask to give my information (and possibly money) to yet another streaming service for a single show

        • bagman818-av says:

Ted Lasso is absolutely one of the best shows on any service, but Apple TV has several good shows. Dickinson, Mythic Quest and For All Mankind, for example.Whether it’s worth a monthly subscription is still a personal question, of course. On a completely unrelated note, several good VPNs are available for around $5 a month.

        • jthane-av says:

It has a 7-day free trial, which IMO is more than enough time to watch the 10 half-hour episodes. After that, it’s $5 a month, and Ted Lasso is well worth at least $5.

        • cropply-crab-av says:

          Pirate it? It’s super easy.

          • mullets4ever-av says:

i don’t pirate stuff. ignoring mortality or whatever, from a practical sense i don’t have anything set up to allow me to watch something from a PC on my television and i have no interest in doing so

          • gargsy-av says:

Well, good thing you showed up to be a dick about it.

          • captain-splendid-av says:

Chances are, if your TV is new enough, you can load up that video file on a USB stick and just plug it in and go.

          • mullets4ever-av says:

maybe? its from 2008 and i don’t know if it even has a USB connection back there.

          • captain-splendid-av says:

Yeah, 2008 is a little bit old.

          • callmecarlosthedwarf-av says:

You should have an HDMI cable if you own a desktop or a console.Hell, if you own a console, just hop on the browser!

          • spoilerspoilerspoiler-av says:

sign up for a month, watch all the good stuff, and bail. Less than the price of a night at the movies, and no malware.

          • misstwosense2-av says:

This is the correct answer. Everybody keeps bitching about needing multiple services now but you can just alternate a month here and a month there between different ones and watch everything you want to in that time. I got AppleTV for Ted Lasso and Servant. Then I’m out until new seasons or shows are debut that I want to see.

          • spoilerspoilerspoiler-av says:

burning through Prime right now. Palm Springs, One Night in Miami and It’s a Sin ftw.

          • aray-han-av says:

Damn, I didn’t know piracy contributed to one’s mortality rate. Sorry, low-hanging fruit, I know, but irresistible.

          • dead-elvis-av says:

i don’t pirate stuff. ignoring mortality or whateverIt wouldn’t kill you to fire up the VPN.

          • mullets4ever-av says:

sure, but on what? i only have an OG xbone attached to my TV.

          • dead-elvis-av says:

            mortality =/= morality

        • donboy2-av says:

I also recommend For All Mankind.

      • batabid-av says:

The Morning Show would like a word with you.

      • joeyjigglewiggle-av says:

This fucking scene was worth the price of admission alone:

        • spoilerspoilerspoiler-av says:

so good. That and the practice speech.

OH MY GOD YOU JUST BLEW MY MIND. I loved AI, and i remember that news conference, but never connected them. Perhaps because they Ted Lasso writers did such a great job of spinning it 180. WOW.

    • jhelterskelter-av says:

It’s the best show I’ve seen in quite some time, and it’s very easy to pirate.

      • misstwosense2-av says:

“It’s the best show I’ve seen in a while, but fuck every single person involved in making it.” Quite the take.

        • jhelterskelter-av says:

It was renewed for two more seasons within a week of its debut, the only folks who suffer from piracy in this case is the corporation. This isn’t like pirating comics or indie games or shows at risk of cancellation.

          • knopegrope-av says:

Right? The actors and writers and crew still get paid, just not Apple, and they’ve got enough money to afford losing some.

    • spoilerspoilerspoiler-av says:

doood: that line is getting so old, it’s almost a Dad joke.

    • jccalhoun-av says:

For All Mandkind is great. Of course if AVClub is all you read you wouldn’t know that because they seem to be avoiding it on purpose at this point.
Mythic Quest was also really good.
Now, if Apple stops extending the free period do I like those shows enough to pay for apple tv+? Probably not.. 🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️

    • lockeanddemosthenes-av says:

      When in doubt, Yo-ho, yo-ho.

    • qwerty11111-av says:

Apple has been giving away 1-year subscriptions to anyone buying their hardware since 2019. Tens of millions of people, etc.

    • toddtriestonotbetoopretentious-av says:

      WE ARE 🙂

    • bigjoec99-av says:

As one of the five, can confirm you’re missing out.Ted Lasso is Major League with Parks & Rec’s heart. Impossible not to love it.

  • erikveland-av says:

Would love to watch this, but from trying to figure out when it actually started, to it just devolved into watching grown men trying to navigate a bad console UX live and I was not here for it.Ted Lasso is fucking great though, go watch it.
