A Waystar Royco hat$25The perfect hat to wear if you want to overthrow your dad as king of the holiday dinner table, says, “I watch Succession and I may or may not be a horrible person.” The twill cap has a pre-bent rim, just like Kendall wears, and would look perfect on anyone who spends a lot of time getting in and out of Town Cars or blacked-out Suburbans. We can’t vouch for its sturdiness when facing down the wind generated by a helicopter’s whirling propellers, but it should at least be able to withstand a good tongue-lashing from Tom. So the book that “offers little more than amusing anecdotes” and rates a C- is also one of the 9 best possible gifts? I guess opinions change when you’re getting a cut of that $50 cover price.

What’s funny about the Waystar Royco hat is it runs contrary to the Roys’ penchant for wearing conspicuously non-branded clothing. Both Logan and Kendall favor plain, black baseball caps, no logo, which is a thing I don’t think I’ve ever actually seen in the wild. I know there’s probably some IRL rights/brand issues that makes a black baseball cap much easier for a show to use than something with a Nike swoosh or a Yankees logo or whatever. But I also started wondering if this was some kind of narrative choice and even a “Rich Person” thing. I, not a Rich Person, hate logos on my clothes and I did have to specifically seek out a plain black wool beanie with no logo for my go-to headwear, but I don’t know where I’d go about finding a plain black baseball cap, or if the thought to find one would even occur to me. I’m also not a baseball cap person.

I don’t wear hats as much as I used to but when I did, one of my favorites was my all black Ravens fitted, from New Era, I think. Oddly I’d probably never consider a plain baseball cap like the Roys wear, but I loved that one. The logos were solid black, just a simple, comfortable look.

Twenty-five bucks for a baseball cap? It’s actually $29.95 on the website.
