After two years of waiting for the Bob’s Burgers Movie, the trailer is finally out. Alright!

As we see in the trailer, Linda’s the one taking over wearing the burger costume instead of Gene, making it “sexy” with a bikini because “it’s summer and sex sells, baby!” But it looks like the sexy summer of selling burgers is under threat by a massive sinkhole right in front of Bob’s Burgers.

A sinkhole doesn’t seem like a massive issue for the Belcher family. After all, they’ve already been through nearly everything that could stop Bob’s Burgers from thriving—including the time when Mr. Fischoeder’s brother Felix nearly killed Bob in the fourth season’s finale. So, there must be something bigger going on than just a sinkhole.

The logline accompanying the trailer hints at that, too:

The story begins when a ruptured water main creates an enormous sinkhole right in front of Bob’s Burgers, blocking the entrance indefinitely and ruining the Belchers’ plans for a successful summer. While Bob and Linda struggle to keep the business afloat, the kids try to solve a mystery that could save their family’s restaurant. As the dangers mount, these underdogs help each other find hope and fight to get back behind the counter, where they belong.

Louise seems to take charge in solving the mystery. She’s shown leading Tina and Gene into what appears to be a trailer park, saying, “Lay low, follow my lead.” She also urges Tina to take video footage of the sinkhole.

But while a sinkhole might be a bit of a downer, the trailer hints at fun coming the Belchers’ way, including robots, an onstage performance, and spaceship-shaped cars.

The Bob’s Burgers Movie has been a long time coming. It had been in the works since 2017 and was initially set to be released on July 17, 2020. With the pandemic changing those plans, the movie’s release was halted. But now, if the omicron variant doesn’t ruin the summer, the Bob’s Burgers Movie will finally hit theaters on May 27, 2022.

What’s hilarious is that this is technically Disney’s first 2D movie in over a dacade.

  • kinjacaffeinespider-av says:

In the crossover event of the season:
The Belchers open a new restaurant in Turkmenistan, because they thought “Hell’s Mouth” was just a nickname.

I’m still waiting on Archer & the gang showing up on Bob’s Burgers. Only fair since Archer drafted the Belcher family at the start of an Archer episode.

“Home Movies” established that HJB yelling at HJB is the funniest thing in existence.  I’m down.

    • schwartz666-av says:

Hmmm, what are some good Hell-themed burgers for Bob? Could only think of one so far.

  • leobot-av says:

Other than the nipple tweaking, that was a little underwhelming as trailers go. I’m still excited, though.

  • chris-finch-av says:

Very excited for this movie, and I don’t mean to knock it in saying this but…its funny how when every animated tv show does their eventual movie, it’s always in the house style but with added shadows and dimensional shading. Always!

    • crews200-av says:

And sometimes they’ll also add Neil Peart.

    • martyfunkhouser1-av says:

“… eventual movie?”Did I miss the “Son of Zorn” movie? Dammit.

    • marshalgrover-av says:

It’d be nicer to see it done in full traditional animation style and not the Homestar Runner way.

    • mythicfox-av says:

I literally came down to the comments after watching the trailer to see if someone else had commented on that (and if they hadn’t, to ask about it myself).

    • themightymanotaur-av says:

Still awaiting Sealab 2021 The Movie, Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law The Movie, Frisky Dingo The Movie, Space Ghost Coast to Coast Teh Movie and The Venture Bros Movie (though i believe that one is actually coming.)

    • gussiefinknottle1934-av says:

Even the changes here are making my brain trip up uncanny valley style, the characters have just different enough expressions or shading to keep noticing somethings off without being able to put your finger exactly on what. Not averse to them keeping it fairly similar to the TV animation

  • ghostofghostdad-av says:

Glad they seem to be keeping in the neighborhood and not doing a road trip movie. Usually the secondary characters get screwed in these movies and become glorified cameos. Looking at you Beavis and Butt-Head Do America and The Simpsons Movie.

    • bassplayerconvention-av says:

I believe I saw a quick glimpse of Sgt Bosco so I’m going to be satisfied no matter what.

    • dougr1-av says:

Simpsons had additional scenes of shenanigans in Springfield but they were cut for time:

    • notallmenmorghulis-av says:

Personally hoping we get some Zeke in the movie- one of my favorite minor characters.I also weirdly love every episode Logan’s in- mainly because it’s hilarious that he’s such a shit that every girl in his grade dropped whatever she was doing to show up on a random hill and pummel him with snowballs.

    • whoiswillo-av says:

Regular Sized Rudy or we riot!

  • tigersblood-av says:

I really did think the first part was an unskippable BK ad and I was getting irritated!

  • thegobhoblin-av says:

Finally, I chance to see Jay Johnstone voicing a character for the big screen and . . . oh . . . oh, no.

    • nogelego-av says:

Relax – this was completed back in 2019 or early 2020 before the Pandemic. Unless they return him to his home planet in a last minute editing fix, he’ll be there.

      • apathymonger1-av says:

It’s very easy to replace an actor in an animated movie.

        • nostalgic4thecta-av says:

I have a conspiracy theory that Jon Benjamin secretly redid a handful of Jimmy Pesto lines in recent episodes. He’s been sounding different.

          • apathymonger1-av says:

Jimmy hasn’t shown up in the current season at all. It’s possible they pulled any episodes he was in to give them time to decide what to do.

          • nostalgic4thecta-av says:

I’m thinking of  the later season 11 episodes that aired last spring when he just had a couple little appearances.

        • thegobhoblin-av says:

That’s true. I’ve heard they can replace them and no one can tell the diddley-ifference.

      • cordingly-av says:

Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if his actor was replaced, heck, we could be looking at the premiere of said actor if he doesn’t make a show appearance anytime soon.

      • schwartz666-av says:

Yeah, I can’t imagine Jimmy isn’t in the movie at all, especially since the sinkhole is technically in front of his place too.I’m assuming the movie will be the new voice-actor’s debut.

  • insomniac-tales-av says:

    So hyped for this!

  • shivakamini-somakandarkram-av says:

I can’t believe this got a movie over Archer.

  • rafterman00-av says:

I love BBs, but Linda just…annoys me. especially when she sings her lines. I don’t know, maybe subconsciously because it’s really a dude voicing her, it adds extra annoyance.

    • cordingly-av says:

“People are really divided on your mother”

Bob’s Burgers is aware of how some people view its characters. Me? I think they use a wonderful balance of her.

      • socratessaovicente-av says:

Teddy is the only character I find over-used. The others hit the right balance pretty much exactly.

    • Audacityscape-av says:

To me, Linda’s voice is part of the fun of the character. Same goes for Tina.

    • nostalgic4thecta-av says:

Linda is fine most of the time, but there are certain episodes that I can’t rewatch because she’s such an annoying idiot in them. Like that Christmas episode where she insists on putting up a tree on Nov 1 and it dies and then she wastes two more before Christmas for the same reason. Then she forces Bob to drive an hour out of town on Christmas Eve to get another tree and she keeps reaching over and honking the horn in a “jingle bells rhythm” while he’s driving and obsessing over Dutch baby pancake things and it all adds up to the whole family almost dying in car wrecks a couple times when the Bobcat Goldthwait trucker is chasing them. Jesus Christ, Linda.

      • whoiswillo-av says:

But that episode has one of my single favorite exchanges in all of BB:
Gene: “That’s how I want to go out! Dehydrated and covered in tinsel.”
Louise: “Sounds like a gay pride parade.”
        Gene: “Mmmmhmmm”

        • nostalgic4thecta-av says:

There’s also the great Gene line when they’re hiding from the trucker and everyone is supposed to be silent and Gene whispers, “I think I have the best legs in the family and the smoothest bottom.” I just can’t handle Linda putting her kids in actual physical danger by being a complete dipshit. I like her better when she’s just a tiny bit self aware.

      • pocketsander-av says:

That episode in general is pretty bad. The “everyone acts like an asshole to the main character”-type comedy (see also: Meet the Parents) is really grating.

  • snagglepluss-av says:

I do love this show but I am not sure it lends itself to a movie. It’s not exactly the the most visually compelling cartoon

    • erakfishfishfish-av says:

South Park isn’t the most visually compelling cartoon either, and Bigger, Longer, and Uncut was a work of genius.

      • snagglepluss-av says:

That is definitely true but South Park has a lot more freedom to drive lay around. I also doubt the makers of Bob’s will use the movie to have Linda singing something involving Uncle Fuckers

    • cordingly-av says:

I think you could make that case for any animated TV show turned film.

    • weedlord420-av says:

Neither is the Simpsons, but that movie turned out great!…. wait a minute…. shit.

  • TRT-X-av says:

Their movie has a sinkhole as a major plot point?  /s

  • it-has-a-super-flavor--it-is-super-calming-av says:

    2 times 6 seasons and a movie!

  • badkuchikopi-av says:

Oh shit I did not expect to be in this.

  • surprise-surprise-av says:

I’m assuming The A.V. Club won’t be reviewing this when it comes out and will use that weekend to review a straight-to-streaming B-grade horror film because the studio paid for sponsored content.

  • schwartz666-av says:

I’m hoping for some first-time reveals of the mystery characters like Bob’s mom (semi-confirmed), Linda’s friend Ginger, Principal Spoors, and of course, Linda’s beloved Mayor.Perfect characters for some big name celebrity casting!

  • biscuittin-av says:

    Needs more Regular Sized Rudy.

  • stephdeferie-av says:

well, yay!  there better be lots of original songs, at least one sung by mr. f & gail!

  • par3182-av says:

Thank goodness the logline mentions the plot ‘cause the trailer doesn’t [not even the word sinkhole].

  • volunteerproofreader-av says:

I found six errors in this article:Alright! —> All right! So, there must be something —> So there must be somethingomicron variant —> Omicron variant the Bob’s Burgers Movie —> The Bob’s Burgers Movie (3 instances)

  • doho1234-av says:

I find it strange that we demand voice actors be the same ethnicity of the secondary characters they play, but are okay with men playing the voice of primary female characters in this show.

  • refinedbean-av says:

I will watch this and attempt to enjoy it. But generally when a show, especially an animated show gets a movie, I just end up learning “I don’t want to watch these characters for longer than half an hour.”
