Pleasantly surprised to see Pup show up so many times (if nowhere near enough to make the final list). A great album and their live shows are even better.

the best song I’ve heard this year is still Sharon Van Etten’s “Seventeen”, and by a decent walk. this song has the makings of an all-timer

I’ll second your shout for “Seventeen” as song of the year. It’s so good that it outshines “No One’s Easy to Love,” which is another incredible song from the album.

Not a single Tool mention. List is incomplete.

“Nest” by Brutus was probably my favourite album of the year, so it’s nice to see that appear.

Nice to see Charli XCX get a shout out here. “Gone” is absolutely my top single of the year, I have yet to get tired of blasting it at top volume and singing along. The breakdown at the end is genius. “Gone” exemplifies what I loved about Charli’s self-titled album this year, massive pop hooks paired with a willingness to get extremely weird and futuristic. Truly a fantastic year for pop music.

Did the Vampire Weekend album just not happen, or what?!

I’m surprised by how few lists mentioned either Big Thief album that came out this year given all of the love they’ve been receiving in other corners of the internet.

Surprised that Calexico and Iron and Wine’s “Years to Burn” didn’t garner a single mention on any of these ballots. Also, while I’m admittedly a huge Sage Francis stan, Epic Beard Men’s “This Was Supposed To Be Fun” was a really good album.

I see a few votes here for Lizzo (good), but none for Chem Bros? WTH?

  • kevincortez-av says:

Well, hadn’t heard the Teebs album until yesterday after seeing how many times it came up on this list, and goddamn, I missed out. That record is tight-knight.

  • denam23-av says:

I am shocked, SHOCKED that Orville Peck’s Pony is not on more of these lists. Glad Katie Rife mentioned it.

  • justinmiles28-av says:

Vampire Weekend’s “Father of the Bride” nowhere in sight? Wow!

  • mrmocha-av says:

How are these lists so good yet the lists that you guys come up with as a whole are so bad?
