Physical media may be devalued by some in our streaming-dominated world, but you’d be surprised how many great titles are only available on disc. Also, some titles can be so much more rewarding on DVD, Blu-ray, or 4K UHD, especially when they’re loaded with special packaging and bonus features. With that in mind, here’s a look at all the best films and shows you can spin starting in September 2023, including the physical debuts of Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, Star Trek: Picard — The Complete Series, The Little Mermaid, and Elemental. Also on tap are the 4K UHD debuts of Steven Spielberg’s Duel, The Exorcist, Sleepy Hollow, Natural Born Killers, and many more.

Available September 5 is the 1971 action-thriller directed by Steven Spielberg about a business commuter (Dennis Weaver) who plays a dangerous cat-and-mouse game with a tractor trailer in the California desert. The movie has been restored in 4K from the original camera negative for its debut. The Universal Studios U.K. release will also be available in a SteelBook edition, which, like the standard 4K UHD, will also play on your U.S. 4K player because 4K UHD discs do not have region restrictions like most Blu-rays and DVDs do. Extras include an interview with Spielberg, “Richard Matheson: The Writing Of Duel,” plus a photograph and poster gallery.

‘Duel’ isn’t being released in September. It’s likely November, although this hasn’t been confirmed.

You missed Princess Bride on 4k and Asteroid City hitting blu ray on Sep 5th, as well Batman: Mask of the Phantasm on 4k comes out Sep 12th.

I love Duel, though I do have to wonder how much a made-for-TV movie from over 50 years ago will benefit from the 4K treatment. Still, it’s bound to be a top-notch restoration, so I’ve got to add it to my list.

Can I get a steelbook edition of this list at Best Buy?

Wow, Picard? You know a format is at its life’s end when that is among the current “best releases.”

Say what you want about the first two seasons, but Picard’s last season was awesome.

Yes, I particularly liked the part where they made a hard turn from delving deeply into the aftermath of everything the Federation did in the Dominion War right back into “lol it was the Borg, remember them?” and completely wasted all the setup of Amanda Plummer’s amazing acting, and then fan serviced me like a sandpaper glove handjob.

You know, exactly like they did in Season 1.
