Gif: Allison Corr

The A.V. Club’s list of 2020’s best TV shows was determined by a voting body made up of staffers and contributors, who each submitted a ranked ballot of their top 15 shows of the year. Each of those ballots, ranked from best to still quite excellent, can be found below.

Psycho Pass’ third season aired in 2019. It was a lot better than the disastrous 2nd season, but not as good as its first. Good on Eric Thurm for including The New Pope.

I guess none of the 15 voters have watched Staged yet.

My initial thought was that I didn’t watch that much TV from 2020 because I spent a lot of quarantine playing catch-up on earlier shows. That’s still true, but I realized that I watched a lot more good TV from this year than I remembered (albeit still dwarfed by the amount that I haven’t seen). I’ll go to bat for Agents of SHEILD’s final season. As someone who has grown a little tired of the MCU movies at this point, that show was one corner of the universe that I never got bored with, and the finale’s ending is especially poignant given the events of this year.

Thanks, Eric Thurm for recognizing Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! as an incredible show outside of the anime sphere. It’s a passionate love letter to hand-drawn animation with lovable characters to boot.
Also it’s nice to see other cartoon series in writers’ ballots. From what I watched:She-Ra carried the progressive baton for children’s cartoons that Steven Universe popularized.
Steven Universe Future is an ode to being aware of one’s mental and emotional health and practicing self-care.
Lastly, Infinity Train’s third (and hopefully not last) season is an exploration of cultism and people’s choice to do good and bad.

Apparently Eric’s the only writer on this site who watches anime.

I vaguely recall other writers here who’ve watched and reviewed anime too, normally Netflix releases. But yeah your point remains and I have no complaints about it. There’s a glut of live-action and Western animated series now and all of that would cast a shadow over the best, critically significant anime.

While absolutely true, there are about 20 anime that I would say rank up there with some of the best media I have ever seen (the 1st season of Psycho Pass is pretty far up there).

Happy I wasn’t the only person who loved “Dispatches from Elsewhere”.

And then should we come up with a top 15 list of our favorite of the top 15 lists posted here?
I’m leaning towards Joelle Monique at the top of my list.

Only one mention of Perry Mason and Sex Education? D:
Also I’ve been in love with Alice in Borderland. A late great addition!

Is Noel Murray trolling us with Young Sheldon?
