With this year’s Grammy nominations, there were the expected outcomes, with big earnings for Beyoncé’s Renaissance, Adele’s 30, and Harry Styles’ Harry’s House. But with any of these award ceremony announcements come some perplexing omissions and even more puzzling inclusions. Some well-deserved artists left the nominations empty-handed, and some with (we’ll say it) not enough recognition. So here’s a rundown of who we were surprised to see on this year’s nominations list, and who we thought were shoe-ins.

While Florence + The Machine earned their first Grammy nom in 6 years for their single “King,” their album Dance Fever was otherwise shut out of the nominations; Björk’s Fossora seems to have edged it out of the Best Alternative Music Album category. The snub comes despite the involvement of Jack Antonoff, one of the nominees for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical. Further, there was stiff competition in the Music Video category, so the album’s gorgeous Autumn de Wilde-directed visuals were also sadly overlooked. [Mary Kate Carr]

Black people are over-represented in popular music. Megan snubbed?  Nah, rap fans are just getting tired of Instagram hookers pretending to be lyricists.

I’d love to write about how Black people are consumed and then tossed aside in the name of popular culture, and how pop culture success is not an acceptable recompense for the myriad deficiencies, degradations and large and small acts of violence, aggression and microaggression visited upon them by largely white societies on a daily basis, but because I can’t give these points the articulate arguments they deserve, I’m going to tell you to eat half a dick and call it a day.

LMAOBlack pop stars and athletes (another over-represented industry!) are treated like fucking royalty, shitheel. If you’re going to be a disingenuous troll, at least attempt to be funny about it maybe?

Jack Harlow having nominations while Megan doesn’t… hate to see it.

It’s Win, and not his brother, Will. This seems like an important one in which to be as accurate as possible.

That and the fact that the inaccurate comment seemed to be arguing that a band should be punished for allegations against one of its members. Arcade Fire put out an album. That album was either “worthy” of recognition or it wasn’t. The songs on it were either “worthy” of recognition or they weren’t. If the AV Club wants to offer commentary on that, they have the whole Internet to do it. I guess drive-by snark is just easier these days…

No mention of Ghost? Can’t say I’m surprised on this site.

Orville Peck ignored for the fourth year in a row. And nothing for Rina Sawayama. Homophobique

That Rosalía song… fucking sucks. The auto-tune, the tonality, the vibe and lack of good instrumentation in the mix, it’s all just so annoying. Absolutely deserves a snub and shouldn’t have even been considered, IMO. To call it Best Latin Rock is so far off par I’m (still) baffled by what the Grammys considers “rock” these days—which is evidently dead and/or indistinguishable from metal. The video also sucks. It’s cheap, awkwardly filmed, and very shaky.

maybe have a less stupid name

Can’t say I agree too much about the Florence + The Machine snub for King.  It’s basically an oddity for the college radio crowd with a cringey video.

Also, no Jack White? That’s a snub for sure. He released two amazing albums this year.
Also, surprised seeing Machine Gun Kelly nominated for rock album. That guy is the definition of poser, a person who acts in an affected manner in order to impress others.

I like a large amount of Drake’s music, but I’ve never felt “this dude deserves a Grammy” towards him.
