Studio Ghibli releases trailer for The Boy And The Heron’s English dub

Legendary filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki’s “final” film (though apparently nobody told him that) will finally be getting a wide U.S. release on December 8 after coming out in Japan earlier this summer (under the original title How Do You Live?). Now, retitled The Boy And The Heron for English-speaking audiences, Studio Ghibli and North American distributor GKIDS have released a trailer for the film’s English dub.

As previously reported, The Boy And The Heron features a stunning cast that includes Christian Bale, who previously played wonderful perfect angel Howl in the English dub of Miyazaki’s Howl’s Moving Castle 20 years ago, plus fellow Ghibli veteran Mark Hamill (who played the villain Muska in the 2003 Disney dub of Castle In The Sky). They’re joined by Luca Padovan, Robert Pattinson, Dave Bautista, Gemma Chan, Willem Dafoe, Karen Fukuhara, Florence Pugh, Mamoudou Athie, Tony Revolori, and Dan Stevens. The film’s YouTube description has this to say about it:

Hayao Miyazaki’s first feature film in 10 years, The Boy and the Heron is a hand-drawn, original story written and directed by the Academy Award-winning director. Produced by Studio Ghibli co-founder Toshio Suzuki, the film features a musical score from Miyazaki’s long-time collaborator Joe Hisaishi.

If you’d like to know more specific things about it, you could watch the trailer. Or, if you’ve gotten this far while stubbornly adhering to the secretive/non-existent marketing campaign that the film received in Japan because you want to be wholly surprised when you finally get to see it, you probably won’t want to click on the trailer and will instead do whatever you can to avoid seeing or hearing too much about The Boy And The Heron (you may even be slightly annoyed that you now know that it has a boy and a heron in it). To those people: There’s just about another month to go!
