In an unexpected twist for a franchise that is very closely associated with its America-themed fascist superhero antagonist, Prime Video’s The Boys is apparently expanding beyond the United States for a whole new spin-off series called The Boys: Mexico. Plot details haven’t been revealed yet, but Variety says the show will be in Spanish, that it will be shot in Mexico (and take place in Mexico City), and that Blue Beetle writer Garth Dunnet-Alcocer is attached to write it.
Plus, both Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal are attached to executive produce, and Deadline says they might even act appear in the series as well—though neither of them would have “major roles,” according to unnamed sources. No other casting details have been announced.
Assuming the show gets picked up, it will be the third entry in Prime Video’s The Boys franchise following the main series and the recent Gen V spin-off (the fourth if you also count semi-canonical animated series The Boys Presents: Diabolical). And, while it seems like Amazon might be in danger of spreading the series too thin, The Boys does seem like a show that would lend itself to Walking Dead-style spin-offs that are just the same basic show set in a different kind of place. Who is the Mexican version of Homelander? Is there a Mexican version of Homelander? Is there a Mexican equivalent of The Boys? It seems like there would have to be, if the title they’re going with is The Boys: Mexico.
Maybe this will all tie in with the upcoming fourth season of The Boys, which is supposed to air at some point in 2024 (and will also probably have to tie in with Gen V in some way).

If The Boys is going worldwide , then please let them so a Northern Ireland one , given where Garth Ennis is from Derry:Boys would be so obvious!
The Lads, Innit
The Aussie version will be called The Cunts.
Call it Los Chicos, you cowards!
*To be broadcast as Los Cheekies in Australia
Unless they are going for giggles and “nudge-nudge, wink-wink”, it’s very doubtful they would call it that. Here it’s a double entendre that would cause quite a laugh…
Los Chavos would be more Mexican… but maybe it’s too tame for this kind of show…
Oh I was totally joking, but now I’m wondering what the double entendre is?
dick size…
Oh, here’s all of my money.
Just delightful that the AVClub seems to have no interest in mentioning that these two co-starred in one of the most important films in Mexican cinematic history and this would be a huge reunion, and instead uses its word count to make sorta-jokes about the various BOYS spinoffs.
Mexico you say? Queue the warm light filter!
I’m genuinely a little shocked that there wasn’t a single reference to Y Yu Mama Tambien in this article.
it’s something from 21 years ago… they have done a lot more since then…
Yes I know. But it’s also by far their most famous collaboration to date, so I’m just surprised Barsanti, of all people, didn’t try to make a snarky joke about it.
