In the five years since Ezra Miller’s The Flash made his debut in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, the actor’s solo movie has struggled to get off the ground. With Andy Muschietti in the director’s chair, production is currently underway in the UK—and Michael Keaton is along for the ride. The Wrap has confirmed that Keaton will reprise his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman in The Flash, loosely based on the Flashpoint comic book arc in which Barry Allen’s time traveling superhero alter ego inadvertently creates an alternate universe in which Keaton’s Batman has been the Gotham City hero for the past 30 years. Keaton famously played the Dark Knight for director Tim Burton in 1989's Batman and its sequel, 1992's Batman Returns. His casting in The Flash was first reported last summer, around the same time that Ben Affleck’s Batman was also rumored to be making an appearance—post-Snyder Cut, and with Warner Bros. trying to distance itself from that era of the DC universe, it’s unclear if Affleck is still set to appear.

Keaton recently cast doubt on his Batman return during an interview with Deadline, in which he expressed concerns over filming in the UK during the COVID-19 pandemic. Those concerns seem to have dissipated in the intervening weeks as the studio began gearing up for production and announced additional casting: Kiersey Clemons will reprise her role as Iris West (Barry’s love interest), Ron Livingston has come aboard to replace Billy Crudup as Barry’s dad, and Alfred Molina will reprise his role as Doc Ock from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2. Scheduled for a November 2022 release, The Flash will also mark the debut of the DC universe’s new Supergirl, played by Sasha Calle.

I swear to Kirby that if they have The Batman Who Laughs be the antagonist of this movie than I am refusing to watch it. He is a shitty knock off of Judge Death that DC keeps bringing back for every fucking Event comic.Yes I know he wasn’t in the original Flashpoint story but allegedly it’s getting Batfleck so it’s a loose adaptation at best.

I misread that as DC comics overusing Judge Death. Which would be fun.Someone needs to stump up for a 2000AD cinematic universe, cos I’ve already mapped the whole thing out in my head (Scott Adkins plays Johnny Alpha, in case you were wondering who Scott Adkins was going to play).

I mean, he’s literally only been in the Metal-branded events, and those events are connected.

My guess is that Keaton is playing Thomas Wayne, who was Batman in the Flashpoint universe in the comics. The age would line up as well. Even if it’s a loose adaptation, it seems plausible that they’d keep that plot element.

I’m kinda hoping it’s the Kingdom Come version, complete with neck-brace exoskeleton (last seen on Kevin Conroy in the last Supergirl/Batwoman crossover). The irony (?) of him still being unable to turn his head after forty years will be delicious.

This flashpoint sounds different than I remember.

I think you’re confusing your big mashup superhero films. Alfred Molina will be reprising his role as Doc Ock in the third Spiderman film No Way Home. Easy mistake as they’re both attempting the same thing more or less.

Legitimately not sure if this is meant as a bit of trolling or it’s just a reflection of the lack of editing at this site. It’s a real 50/50.

“..and Alfred Molina will reprise his role as Doc Ock from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2″ – ummm, in a different movie, not related to the Flash, right?

  • areaman530-av says:

“. . . and Alfred Molina will reprise his role as Doc Ock from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2.”The alternate universes are going to be bonkers!

ezra miller’s flash is sooooooooooo terrible

  • jhhmumbles-av says:

OK, let’s speculate.  Old, grizzled, elder statesman Batman or digitally de-aged Keaton with a body double?  Sadly, my money’s on the latter.

Batman and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

I’m assuming Thomas Wayne older more murdery Batman

    • obtuseangle-av says:

I’m guessing he’s playing Thomas Wayne. In the Flashpoint universe in the comic, Bruce Wayne was killed by the mugger instead of his parents. Martha Wayne went insane and became that universe’s Joker, and Thomas Wayne responded by vowing to fight crime to prevent similar tragedies from happening, becoming that universe’s Batman. Since this film is based off of that comic, I wouldn’t be surprised if they use a similar idea. That Batman was considerably older as a result, so Keaton’s age would work pretty well for that.

  • monsterdook-av says:

Bringing back Keaton as Batman (even if it’s Thomas Wayne, since this is going to be Flashpoint, right?) is very cool, but it would be nice if DC would trust its own properties without needing Batman shepherd the project.
Also, I thought Ezra was miscast as the Flash in Whedon’s JL, but I was really surprised how much better he fit the character in Snyder’s cut. Still not exactly DC Comics Barry Allen, but at least he wasn’t a useless joke.

Pretty sure Keaton Batman is just an older Keaton Batman and there’s multiverse stuff happening.

  • sinister-portent-av says:

When did it become unclear that Affleck was appearing in the Flash movie? Only things I’ve heard is that Warner’s is courting him to make some more appearances after that.

    • adamtrevorjackson-av says:

well it’s never official until it’s official. like, alfred molina was spotted on the set of that new spider-man, but it’s only become that he’s in it ‘official’ this week.i assume that’s what they mean, anyway.

    Where’s Cyborg?

  • hootiehoo2-av says:

I’m looking forward to this to reset the shows. I think the multiverse stuff will also be in play in Flash movies.Keaton playing Thomas Wayne instead of JDM is fine with me even if JDM would have been okay as Thomas Wayne. The Flash movie is the movie I am most looking forward to and as a kid I was a huge Spider-man fan over everything but in my 40’s now I don’t like Holland very much and aren’t too excited for Marvel’s cross over movie this year.Flash lends to bending of time better than most characters.

Is Ezra Miller ever going to address that video of him pushing that girl or whatever?  We all know Emile Hirsch choked that woman out and nobody cares, so Miller may never address it, but if there is some reason it isn’t a big deal then I wish there was some kind of statement instead of people just continuing to be his fan despite thinking he was just randomly violent towards a female fan.

    • wangphat-av says:

Last time I mentioned that I got a billion replys from the same guy accusing me of making things up and then gaslighting him for saying it really happened. I can’t remember who it was,but it seems the commenters here don’t care unfortunately.

      • anathanoffillions-av says:

        I mean…I watched the video

        • wangphat-av says:

Lol I did too. That guy claimed they were both laughing in the video, which is definitely not true.

          • anathanoffillions-av says:

if that’s true then release a statement saying that, or do another “wacky” video together, because it looked very violent and nobody has controverted that

  • mattthecatania-av says:

If this goes full Flashpoint, will The Flash finally deliver Lauren Cohan as the Joker?
