The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

Aux News Coming Distractions

Thanks to an (allegedly) illegally filmed bootleg that may or may not be a Sony viral marketing plant, this first look at David Fincher’s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is light on story but heavy on atmosphere. Which is fine: Considering Stieg Larsson’s novel is handed out in lieu of peanuts on most commercial flights—and the entire story of punk hacker badass Lisbeth Salander has already been made into three well-received Swedish movies—there’s not much need to recap the plot anyway. As far as Fincher’s take on the source material, at first rapid-cut glance he seems to be returning to the industrial grittiness of movies like Se7en—or maybe that's just the tone being set by Trent Reznor and Karen O’s grimy take on “Immigrant Song.” Let’s just say that the tagline, “The Feel-Bad Movie Of Christmas,” should prove to be fairly accurate, so long as you don’t also include whatever Lifetime has planned.
