The King's Man goes full Kingsman in this new trailer

Aux Features Coming Distractions

The first trailer for Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman series prequel The King’s Man held its true identity close to the dapper vest until its final moments, presenting itself as some kind of World War I movie with a vaguely modern tone right up until the reveal of a familiar suit shop and the title. For this new trailer, such deception is immediately discarded in favor of more slow-mo stylish action, quippy heroes, and “War Pigs.” That being said, while Vaughn’s modern-day movies lean pretty hard on the flashy gadgets, this one plays its flashiest gadget—something called a “parachute”—as a joke. Still, that’s only half of the Kingsman recipe, and the other half (very overt Britishness) is here in full force.

The King’s Man will be in theaters on February 14 (in honor of everyone who loves these Kingsman movies).

The fact that such a group would have been about the continuing oppression of people in the various colonies they took advantage of as well as promoting war in the service of retaining and expanding colonial powers and repressing internal dissent of those wishing to be free of colonialist oppression. Now with fun gadgets and snappy suits!Don’t ask questions, just enjoy the ride and root for the actual evildoers!

Oh, for sure. Also, is this movie going to posit a timeline where WWI is averted? Because if not, all their talk comes to basically nothing.

      • mfolwell-av says:

Nah, it’ll probably just posit a timeline where Rasputin’s machinations would’ve decisively swung the war against the Allied Forces, if not for the actions of the Kingsmen.

Was screwing with “War Pigs” like that really necessary?

The trouble is that using a cover of a classic song is considerably cheaper than using the original. That is why every single trailer these days has a “re-imagining” of such a song.

Probably done after the success of remixes for the Battlefield 1 trailer

Lets replace real drumming from Bill Ward with fake drumming from a computer!  -someone in the office who thought it was a good idea.

Guess Matthew Vaugh has found his Resident Evil/Underworld equivalent. A dependably mediocre franchise that he can keep cranking out for a steady paycheck every 3-4 years, each film feeling like “wait didn’t that already come out?”

    • crahanclown-av says:

Looks like an improvement on the first two, at least

Kingsmen 2 was easily one of the most repellent and annoying movies I’ve seen in a long while, and Vaughn reveals himself to be more and more of an obnoxious prick in every interview I hear/read with him, so yeah, this one’s gonna be a pass for me.

Counterpoint: the original was actually quite good, not taking itself seriously because not expecting to be a hit-and-run success. The sequel was a huge pile of shite, done mainly to cash on the original’s success and failing miserably at expanding US-side because money.

Serious MIB International vibes here, and that’s not a good thing.

I got a John Steed flashback at the 1:42 mark when Ralph Fiennes is fighting with the umbrella. Let’s hope this movie is better than that one.

Near the beginning of the trailer, after the Fox logo, there are a bunch of dots on the screen. Is that a logo? Because I’m colorblind and all I can see are a bunch of dots.

Unpopular opinion:  I thought it looked OK, and will probably watch it.

    • augustintrebuchon-av says:

I think it looks more promising than the sequel, that heap of celluloid crap.Well, digital crap, but you know what I mean.

    • unregisteredhal-av says:

I probably won’t watch it, but I agree. I haven’t seen any of the other movies in this series, but I am generally favorably disposed toward period-piece action movies, because they are forced to avoid some of the worst tendencies of current-day action movies. Case in point: someone jumping out of a plane with a shitty prototype of a parachute sounds way more interesting than, well, anything that happened in the last Avengers movie.

  • walkerd-av says:

This film series really went downhill once Mike Myers stopped being the lead actor and the movies started taking themselves so seriously.

  • mightymisseli-av says:

I know it’s wrong, but I actually kinda wish they had gone with a string-heavy arrangement of War Pigs.
