The Rock will not run for president, according to The Rock

After previously expressing an interest in the nation's highest office, the Black Adam star now says he'd rather focus on "being a daddy"

For anyone who marks Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as the leader the United States needs now, disappointment may be in store: The Black Adam star has confirmed in a new interview with CBS Sunday Morning that he no longer plans on running for president.

“It’s off the table. Yes. It is off the table,” Johnson responds when asked about a potential presidential run. “I will say this because it requires a B-side to this. I love our country and everyone in it. I also love being a daddy. And that’s the most important thing to me is being a daddy, number one, especially during this time, this critical time in my daughters’ lives.”

The actor continues: “I know what it was like to be on the road and be so busy that I was absent for a lot of years in my first daughter’s… Growing up in this critical age at this critical time in their life, and that’s what the presidency will do. So my number one priority is my daughters.”

If your response to The Rock’s latest heartfelt statement is “wait, president?” (and that response would be warranted) it’s worth diving into some brief history. Johnson has publicly discussed a run for president as far back as 2017, when he told Variety he would “100% consider” running for office in 2o24.

Since then, he’s hit the brakes. In an interview last year with Vanity Fair, Johnson confirmed he had met with people in politics to do “a small amount of research and analysis to see” what a presidential run would look like. But even back then, Johnson was quick not to make any big campaign promises before even embarking on a campaign.

“I don’t know the first thing about policy. I care deeply about our country. I care about every fucking American who bleeds red, and that’s all of them. And — there’s no delusion here — I may have some decent leadership qualities, but that doesn’t necessarily make me a great presidential candidate,” The Rock says. “That’s where I am today.”

Thank god we won’t have to deal with this Enlightened Centrist on any ticket

Let’s be real, he doesn’t want to do it.He doesn’t want the responsibility. He doesn’t want to openly run as a Republican and knows he can’t win as an Independent. So just go with the safe excuse.

The Rock has some weird-ass politics. I don’t know that he would be accepted in the Republican party. Pretty sure he just wants to be loved by as many people as possible and doesn’t think deeper than that on issues. Which is fine, I am quite left and I love The Rock. Lots of wrestling fans are actually surprisingly more lefty than you would expect.

I know studies show that wrestling fans lean more left than most would suspect, though I do wonder how much of that is self reporting being more left than they actually are.But Rock is totally a centrist Republican*. He was registered Republican for a long time and I think only said he was independent once Obama started running. He would be the ideal Republican candidate if they ever move away from the Trump Republican. Pro gun, pro military, pro tax cuts. He never comes out on issues unless he can stray the center.*fyi, I call centrist republicans as someone who isn’t racist but would never cut military spending or pass gun laws etc. Which honestly might not exist anymore anyway.

Rockefeller Republicans or New England Republicans. There’s a few left, but they are more on the media/consultant side (consultant side more often than not now campaigning for Dems to stop Trump style GOP) . Very few in office. They’ve all either died out or have been driven out by the ever growing more extremist and fascist types of Republicans.

“*fyi, I call centrist republicans as someone who isn’t racist”But also who is definitely racist in that they vote for racist candidates in a racist party with racist policies.

He’s probably persona non grata with the Republicans now given his endorsed Biden in 2020.

It’s probably the same as it here with us in Australia except likely even worse going by what we’ve seen up to now, the cons ultimately fall in line behind whoever ultimately ends up as the candidate regardless of what they thought of them beforehand.

True. And I mean who could forget the number of people who now insist they hated Morrison too despite backing the prick to the hilt.

Obama started running a lifetime ago. I honestly don’t think he has a lot of strongly held political opinions.

Politics aside, it’s hard to blame anyone for not wanting to turn their life upside down and inside-out to be POTUS.OTOH, given Mr. Johnson’s already-star-power, his life is probably kinda like that already. Hopefully his kids are avoiding the worst of it.

This is obviously just to set up his surprise appearance at the inauguration where he challenges the new president-elect.

Ok but seriously, I love the Rock’s sticom and I was worried that it was partially intended to groom us into accepting a Rock presidential run.
