Dwayne Johnson has been attached to play Black Adam in a DC superhero movie for nearly 10 years, and with Jaume Collet-Serra’s Black Adam finally coming out in October, Johnson has earned a chance to milk it a bit. A few weeks ago he showed up at DC’s Comic-Con panel as Black Adam, which mostly meant flying in and scowling at people (he didn’t even zap anybody with his lightning powers!), and—as a handful of people learned at movie theaters last weekend—he also showed up as both Black Adam and Black Adam’s pet jackal in DC League Of Super-Pets (which already stars Johnson as Krypto The Superdog).

And now, because Dwayne Johnson isn’t living if he’s not promoting (you can take the man out of the WWE, but etc., etc.), he has released the full Black Adam scene from Super-Pets to promote both of his 2022 DC movies (and to promote Teremana Tequila, naturally). He even notes that he plays nearly every character in the scene, presumably to establish that they can’t make any future League Of Super-Pets movies without letting him play Krypto and Anubis and Black Adam. And maybe he should also play Superman? And Hobbs from Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw can stop by! And John Notice, which we assume was his character’s name in Red Notice! And Billy Ballers, his character from Rampage!

Anyway, here’s the Super-Pets clip, which pokes some fun at the idea of Black Adam being an antihero and how that’s basically just a villain. Do kids care about antiheroes? The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are still around, so kids still know who Raphael is, but he’s really more of a hero with a bad attitude than an antihero like Black Adam. Either way: Teremana Tequila, hashtag tequila of the people. It’s not for kids.

League of Superpets was insane, but I had a thrill with it because of stuff like this.
I continue to be intrigued, by the way, by the Black Adam film and all this hints about it as I’m really hoping they stick to their guns and make it the origin story of a villain. Just based on what it looks like, it would just be so much interesting to have someone choose the ‘wrong’ path in a such a story as it gives more power to those who don’t. In addition, they need to build for that Shazam story and there is so much more power there.

We saw League if Superpets on Friday and it was so good. Way better then I expected it would be. It’s actually been a good year for kids movies which is a huge blessing for us parents. Superpets is probably top of the list but Turning Red was also really fun. The family and especially my youngest loved Lightyear. I know a lot of people didn’t like it and a lot more said “How could a little kid like Andy fall in love with this movie and character” but since it’s hit Disney Plus it’s been almost a daily watch for my 7 year old. Minions: Rise of Gru want painful either. Better then most Dreamworks franchise sequels this deep in. It’s mostly watchable for the cartoon slapstick that modern kids stuff doesn’t tend to embrace.

Despite my allergy to Kevin Hart (and Dwayne Johnson these days), I’ve been trying to convince my nephew to see League of Super-Pets based on the “Better than I expected!” reviews. Unfortunately, he considers himself too grown up for superhero fare; we saw Bullet Train instead 😔

I’ve been underwhelmed by the trailers, but this little clip was actually amusing. Given the mostly (if not effusively) positive reviews for it, I’m considering checking it out when convenient…

I thought Minions was a disappointment, but it got an actual standing ovation from most of the theater I was in, so I guess it was a big hit with its target audience. But otherwise, yeah I think there’s been a lot of good kids films including this one, which was better than I was expecting too.

And we’re cool with white people referring to him as “Black Adam”? Why’s he gotta be black, he can’t just be Adam? Is there some other color Adams rolling around that we need to distinguish?Hey, here comes Black Adam and his wife Susan, aka Black Susan.

Very strange to me to make the Billy Ballers joke and choose to not associate it with his character from the show Ballers.
