There’s a Furby movie coming to haunt your nightmares with its dead robot eyes

Aux Features Film

Speaking loudly, so as to be heard over the sound of the bottom of the barrel being well and truly scraped, TWC-Dimension’s Bob Weinstein announced today that he’s put a Furby movie in production. And lest you get excited at the thought that female golfer Joanne Furby’s story is finally being told, we should be clear: he meant the hideous owl thing that Hasbro once tried to foist upon the world.

According to Variety, Weinstein announced the new film earlier today, as one of five on his studio’s current slate. “We think that this can resonate as a four-quadrant film,” added Hasbro executive Stephen Davis, referring to movies that do well with all four demographics of people who still like Furbies. Davis also noted that it wouldn’t just be a “90-minute commercial” for the toys, which were briefly popular in the ’90s before ultimately going feral.

Weinstein also talked about the other movies he’s currently got in development: Mark Wahlberg’s Six Billion Dollar Man, the horror movie Polaroid, Robert De Niro’s The War With Grandpa, and Murder Mystery. “I’m rolling the dice and playing for hits,” Weinstein said with, presumably, a straight face, despite the fact that he was holding a piece of paper that had “Furby movie” written somewhere on it.
