Recently, with its “Swiftamine” ad parody, Saturday Night Live made it, if not totally acceptable, at least less unacceptable for adults to enjoy the “pink and bubbly” music of Taylor Swift. Welcome to phase two of that process. Via its Soundcloud page, Chicago production duo The Hood Internet has gifted the world with “Backseat Shake Off,” a mashup that splices the DNA of Swift’s unavoidable “Shake It Off” with that of “Backseat Freestyle,” a track from 2012’s good kid, M.A.A.D city by the much-less-embarrassing (and significantly less stigmatized) rapper Kendrick Lamar. Much like “Party And Bullshit In The USA” before it, this new mashup has the miraculous effect of taking an undeniably catchy yet rather grating pop song and reducing its chirpiness and cheesiness to acceptable levels through the addition of credible hip-hop. One might almost say that The Hood Internet have created a track which players will want to play, play, play, play, play, and haters are going to have a difficult time trying to hate, hate, hate, hate, hate.
