Today in Olympics news: Underworld releasing opening ceremonies music, Spice Girls maybe reuniting

Director Danny Boyle and electronic music duo Underworld, both UK natives, have been working together to produce the sights and sounds for the London Olympics’ Opening Ceremony next Friday, July 27. Now they’ve given word of their plan to officially release the product of these efforts as an album titled Isle Of Wonder: Music For The Opening Ceremony Of The London 2012 Games. Isle of Wonder will include new songs from Underworld and will be available on iTunes on July 28 at midnight just after the evening’s formalities conclude. The music for the closing ceremony will also be released digitally, under the title A Symphony Of British Music, and will be available August 12.

If the rumors are true, The Spice Girls could show up on the latter. Victoria Beckham (or Posh Spice, as the world remembers her fondly) has hinted at a performance that may or may not happen during the closing ceremonies. Nothing has been confirmed as of yet, but in the meantime all the spicy “people of the world” are double-crossing their fingers to look like a Union Jack.
