Tom Hardy is a sad Al Capone in this first image from Fonzo

Aux Features Film

After the grim reception of his Fantastic Four movie and the collapse of his Star Wars spin-off, director Josh Trank has returned to lower-budget filmmaking with Fonzo, a movie starring Tom Hardy as an aging Al Capone in the early stages of dementia. We first heard about the project back in 2016, but now Hardy himself has shared the first photo of him in character as Capone (via Page Six).

The photo shows a sullen Hardy slouching in a chair, holding a stylish mobster fedora in his hand. Fonzo is set after Capone has been released from prison, so he’s probably too disappointed by his fading fortunes in Chicago’s criminal underworld to want to wear his hat. He also has a big tattoo on his arm of a skeleton wearing a top hat, which isn’t particularly accurate to the real Al Capone’s arm, but it is pretty fucking sick.

Along with Hardy, Fonzo will star Linda Cardellini, Matt Dillon, Kyle MacLachlan, and Kathrine Narducci.
