Tom Holland confirmed this evening that development on a fourth film centered on his version of Spider-Man is in the works—or, at least it was.

Per Variety, Holland was doing the red carpet rounds for his new Apple TV+ show The Crowded Room, which unkind people might describe as Holland’s latest attempt to convince the world he can play creepy murderers, bank robbers, and more, just as easily as he plays fresh-faced superheroes or gives an elaborately impressive lip-sync performance. Conversation, naturally, turned to the Peter Parker of it all, which led the famously loose-lipped Holland to say this: “I can’t talk about that, but I can say that we have been having meetings. We’ve put the meetings on pause in solidarity with the writers, There’s been multiple conversations had, but at this point it’s very, very early stages.”

This isn’t the first indication we’ve gotten that Holland’s tenure in the role will continue past 2021's highly lucrative multiverse adventure Spider-Man: No Way Home. MCU mastermind Kevin Feige has previously stated (back in February) that he and the studio “have the story” for a return engagement, but indicated that no script had been penned yet. And Amy Pascal, who’s been a producer on pretty much every Spidey-related movie since 2017's Homecoming—give or take a Morbius—made comments similar to Holland’s at the premiere for new animated feature Across The Spider-Verse earlier this week, noting that, “We’re in the process, but the writers strike, nobody is working during the strike. We’re all being supporters and whenever they get themselves together, we’ll get started.”

Viewers will remember that No Way Home ended on a pretty weird storytelling note that could have served as an endpoint for Holland’s tenure as the character; it looks like it’ll instead be a jumping off point for a new set of adventures, presumably with a whole new supporting cast who hopefully won’t get subjected to that dang amnesia magic that screwed up Peter’s life the last time around.

Eh.  A movie about just one Spider-Man feels lacking at this point.

If Bob Hoskins can wind up in Toonland, Holland can go into the Spider-verse.

There are other Spiderpeople who haven’t made their MCU debut yet:  Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Spider- Gwen, Anya’s Corazon if you want to do some deep cuts.

They won’t introduce Miles Morales in the MCU until Tom Holland starts looking old. There’s still a lot they can do with the Tom Holland Spider-Man. They set up a black suit / Venom angle, and we still haven’t actually seen the MCU versions of Green Goblin, Doc Oc, Electro, Sandman and Lizard because those guys all came from other continuities. The way the No Way Home spell worked was confusing, because everyone still seems to remember Spider-Man but not Peter Parker. So can’t he just show up at Avengers HQ or MJ’s diner in the suit, and then take off the mask and introduce himself? The worldwide amnesia doesn’t really seem to be that big an obstacle for him.

And until someone can destroy that painting aging in Hollands attic, he won’t start aging

Holland looks like the baby pokemon evolution of Matthew McConaughey in that photo. On a barely related note, I saw Orlando Bloom in a short featurette about Gran Turismo, and sometime in the ten years since I last saw a Pirates Hobbit movie he’s transformed from Hollywood Hunk to Greasy Cockney Swindler.

Someday you’ll see Orlando Bloom in the inevitable remake of “Grand Torino,” and by then he’ll have transformed into Square-Jawed Old Guy.

He was at Monaco last weekend and it took me a moment to realise it was him, he seemed to be doing some sort of impression of Hugh Grant’s character from The Gentlemen

Yeah, that was a shocker when I finally got around to seeing Carnival Row earlier this year.

The end of No Way Home could have been a great start point for a wandering-vigilante TV series, in the mould of King Fu, the original Incredible Hulk, or The Littlest Hobo. I’m wondering if they’re going to double down on Strange’s final spell, and have everyone not just forget about him once, but continually forget Peter as soon as he’s out of the room.

“It’s so great to have you back on board, Tom! We still have so many exciting stories to tell. There’s just one last…” “…yeah?”“We were wondering if maybe you’ve reconsidered the shir—”“THE SHIRT STAYS OR I’M OUT. MY AGENT WAS VERY CLEAR ON THIS.”

it’s gonna be the clone sage and it’s gonna break spider-man movies for 10 years.

I  swear I see one Live Action Ben Reilly with whatever blond twerp they are making in the Disney factory, I will burn this shit down.

    • nilus-av says:

If it’s the Clone Saga does that mean it’s gonna be the first ten hour long movie?

  • ghostofghostdad-av says:

All he’s got is those Spider-Man movies and Cherry 2.

Devil All The Time was actually pretty good. And if all we had was his Spider-Man movies, that would be just fine because they’re pretty damn good.

Meetings for Spider-Man 4, eh? Hmm. What to do, what to do…What if- and hear me out- He’s actually in a movie with Venom this time? Morbius, Kraven… Sony for some reason thinks they can keep this up.
