Tory Lanez is still asserting that he is not guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion in both feet in 2020—even after he was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the crime earlier this week. The rapper posted his first statement since the sentencing on Instagram Thursday night, in the form of a notes app non-apology directed to “The Umbrellas,” a nickname for his fans.
“I have never let a hard time intimidate me I will never never let no jail time eliminate me Regardless of how they try to spin my words, I have always maintained my innocence and I always will,” the rapper, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson, opened his statement.
“This week in court I took responsibility for all verbal and intimate moments that I shared with the parties involved… That’s it,” he continued. “In no way shape or form was I apologizing for the charges I’m being wrongfully convicted of. I remain on the stance that I refuse to apologize for something that I did not do.”
While no court transcripts are available at the time of publication, The Associated Press reports that Lanez said the following before his sentence was handed down on Tuesday: “If I could turn back the series of events that night and change them, I would… The victim was my friend. The victim is someone I still care for to this day… Everything I did wrong that night, I take full responsibility for.”
In his Instagram statement, Peterson continued by referring to his 10-year sentence as just another moment of hardship. “I’ve faced adversity my whole life and every time it looked like I would lose, I came out on top,” he wrote. “This is nothing but another moment where my back is against the wall and I refuse to stop fighting till I come out victorious.”
“Tough times don’t last, tough people do. To my family, friends and umbrellas thank you for your continued support. See you soon,” he concluded.
While Megan Thee Stallion (legal name Megan Pete) has not responded to the sentencing as of time of publication, a prosecutor read a statement from the rapper in court on Monday (per AP). “Since I was viciously shot by the defendant, I have not experienced a single day of peace,” she wrote. “Slowly but surely, I’m healing and coming back, but I will never be the same.”

the funniest part of this remains that his hair loss doctor wrote an impassioned letter to the judge saying he shouldn’t go to jail because he’s helped people deal with their own hair loss. now aside from the obvious, why else is it funny? because not only does he still deny shooting megan, he also denies going bald!
Is that true? I don’t see a credible source for it but, like, I want to believe that it’s true. Why? Because I can’t imagine what goes through someone’s head to make them think that kind of letter will at all work. He probably had a better, um, “shot” at leniency by just admitting he did it.
this is after years and years of people pointing out the obvious balding and him denying it. seems like he came clean eventually, but probably only because it might have given him public sympathy.

I can see why this is news, because I’m pretty sure nobody has ever done that!
Is he saying she faked being shot? Or somebody else shot her?It just doesn’t make sense.And denying he shot her’s not going to help him get out early.
I think he wanted his statement in court to be interpreted to mean he was taking responsibility for shooting Megan Thee Stallion. Once he got a lengthy sentence anyway, he’d now prefer not to be a guy who confessed to shooting Megan Thee Stallion. If he gets a chance to be released early, he will once again become a man who wants to get credit for having taken responsibility for shooting Megan Thee Stallion. Once released, he will want to be a guy who did not confess to shooting Megan Thee Stallion.He’s perfectly consistent. He says the thing he thinks will help him at any given moment, consistently.
With that kind of message discipline, I expect him to run for office as a Republican once he’s a free man.
Also, he shot a woman, which is a big resume builder with the GOP primary electorate.
If you’re trying to appeal, you can’t exactly go around saying, “yeah, my bad” after conviction.

This guy’s government name is DAYSTAR PETERSON. That’s one hell of a handle, brother. What happened? Did his mom watch a lot of religious programming? A lot of bad vampire movies? Do a lot of acid? I mean, I’m not sure that “Tory Lanez” is the best stage name he could have come up with, but it certainly beats going around calling yourself “Daystar.”Also, I guess this guy joins what I imagine is the short-ish list of rappers who fucked up their lives by shooting somebody in the foot.
