Could we interest you in some fictional horrors, as a nice change of pace from the abundance of real ones? In a fit of accidental good timing—we’re assuming it’s an accident—NBCUniversal will be releasing some of its classic monster movies for free on the ol’ YouTube. NME reports that a series of Universal’s titans of the genre will, beginning January 15, arrive on the YouTube channel Fear: The Home Of Horror. Each will be available to stream free for a week, and during that week, the films will also be for sale digitally for a discounted price.

Here’s the schedule:

  • January 15: Dracula (1931), The Mummy (1932)
  • January 16: Frankenstein (1931), Bride Of Frankenstein (1935)
  • January 17: The Invisible Man (1933), The Wolf Man (1941), Abbott And Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948)

There’s no shortage of horror to stream online, but if you’ve never had the pleasure, these classics are well worth seeing. For one thing, the spooks! The scares! The shrieks! For another, the influence of these seven films is far-reaching, with the genre as a whole owing much of its DNA to what’s found within.

Plus, that Bride Of Frankenstein hair? Iconic.

A lot of the Universal monster movies are on Peacock too.

I can pretty much quote Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein by heart, having watched it so often as a child. It’s probably been 30 years since I’ve seen it, so I’ll have to check it out again.

Finally watched The Mummy for the first time a couple of months ago – was well done, with some amazing photographic effects for 1932.

So who do we get to be the hosts for this? Which VTuber would best rock a Dracula cape?

Cool. I didn’t know about this channel. Which is probably why they’re doing this.

It’s pretty trivial to download free to watch YouTube videos, by the way.

I’ve yet to see The Mummy, The Invisible Man, or Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein, so this is a nice opportunity to cross those off the list.

The Mummy is the creepiest, the Invisible Man is the most trangressive, and A&C Meet Frankenstein (and Dracula and the Wolfman) is the funniest.

The Wolf Man has been on my personal list for years. I saw it when I was like six but I never sat down & watched the whole thing since. Definitely not passing this up.

For the longest time, my little brother and I would reference that scene from The Wolf Man that was in The Sandlot. It was a blast to get to that part when I finally watched the movie last year.

I got a box set that has all of them except Abbott and Costello, so I’m looking forward to seeing that one.

Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein is coming to Youtube!“Me tube?”No, not me tube, Youtube.“That’s what I’m saying!”It’s you, not me.“What are you, my last girlfriend?”You don’t understand; it’s coming to an Internet site…“Which one?”Youtube.“Look, you can just not tell me, without calling me a tube.”No, why-oh-you, Youtube.“I dunno.”You don’t know what?“I dunno why you owe me. Was it that dollar I loaned you last month? I thought you paid that back.”Look, just forget the whole thing.“Not if you still owe me a dollar, I won’t!”
