Wendell Pierce will play B.B. King

Aux Features Film

Wendell Pierce—humble motherfucker with a big-ass dick, star of Hackers and other insightful social commentaries of our time—has signed on to play the lead in the biopic B.B. King And I, according to Variety. The “I” in the Rogers and Hammerstein-twisting title belongs to Patrick Fugit, who will come close to revisiting Almost Famous territory by starring as Michael Zanetis, the real-life drummer who struck up a friendship with King and co-wrote the screenplay based on their experiences. As Collider points out, Pierce’s commitment to verisimilitude meant taking trombone lessons for his current role on Treme, so it seems a given that he’ll also look into guitar lessons to play the blues icon, thereby furthering his inevitable, Dick Van Dyke-style one-man band on the Venice Beach boardwalk.
