6 things to watch on TV this weekend
A Sonic spinoff hits Paramount+, Hulu's Bon Jovi doc drops, CNN digs into Beyoncé's latest album, and more

Welcome to the weekend edition of What’s On. Here are the big things happening on TV from Friday, April 26 to Sunday, April 28. All times are Eastern. [Note: The weekly edition of What’s On publishes on Sundays.]
1. There’s now a Sonic The Hedgehog TV universe
Paramount+, Friday, 3:01 a.m.: The six-episode series Knuckles, a spinoff that bridges that gap between Sonic The Hedgehog 2 and the as-yet-unreleased third film, sees the titular echidna (Idris Elba) and deputy sheriff Wade Whipple (Adam Pally) go on a road trip. The cast also includes Edi Patterson, Cary Elwes, Ellie Taylor, Rory McCann, Scott Mescudi, and Stockard Channing. Here’s a bit from The A.V. Club’s review:
If you live for ’90s nostalgia, there are plenty of Easter eggs to be found here. The show has some heart, too—and unlike its prickly protagonist, it doesn’t take itself too seriously.
2. Thank You, Goodnight, it’s time for the Bon Jovi story
Hulu, Friday, 12:01 a.m.: Directed by Gotham Chopra, the four-part docuseries Thank You, Goodnight is a comprehensive, intimate look at the rock band Bon Jovi. It features interviews with the members, 40 years’ worth of personal videos, unreleased demos and lyrics, and other milestones of their journey from the Jersey Shore to global fame.
3. Shudders streams the French horror import Infested
Shudder, Friday, 3:01 a.m.: In the French film Infested, a lonely 30-year-old (Théo Christine) brings a rare, venomous spider home because he’s fascinated by exotic animals. It’s too bad the creature escapes, quickly reproduces, and turns his safe space into a dreadful trap.
4. Broken Horses explores the heartbreaking side of racing
FX, Friday, 10 p.m.: The New York Times’ partnership with FX continues with Broken Horses, in which reporters Joe Drape, Melissa Hoppert, Rachel Abrams, and Liz Day delve into the systemic problems and practices of horse racing like breeding, doping, and betting. Expect interviews with athletes, Kentucky Derby winners, and others involved in the sport.
5. CNN goes all in on Beyoncé
Max, Friday, 3:01 a.m.: Beyoncé’s latest album Cowboy Carter led to her becoming the first Black woman to top Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart. It also sparked an intense discourse on Black representation in the genre. CNN digs into all of this with Call Me Country: Beyoncé And Nashville, which features interviews with Rhiannon Giddens, the Brothers Osborne, and other artists.
6. Goodbye Earth is this weekend’s K-drama watch
Netflix, Friday, 3:01 a.m.: Dystopia awaits in the South Korean drama Goodbye Earth, in which people—including a school teacher determined to keep her students safe—are living in utter terror after learning that in 200 days an asteroid will collide with our little blue planet.
