Here’s what’s happening in the world of television for Sunday, February 13. All times are Eastern.

Top pick

Bel-Air (Peacock, 3:01 a.m.): The first three episodes of this Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air reboot drop tonight. Kellee Terrell wrote in her review, “While Bel-Air pays homage to the original, weaving in tiny, yet meaningful threads of the past—e.g., Will wearing his prep school jacket inside out—it is a complete reimagining. Inspired by Morgan Cooper’s 2019 viral trailer and executive produced by Cooper, T.J. Brady, and Rasheed Newson, this version rids itself of the laugh track, the 30-minute runtime, and multi-cam format, and replaces them with a gorgeously shot, much darker hour-long drama. The show still has some joy but isn’t afraid to raise the stakes and dig deeper into issues around race, class, drug addiction, and violence, where the original could only scratch the surface. And whether intentional or not, Bel-Air addresses the colorism from the original series by casting mostly dark-skinned actors to play the Banks family. This reboot is thoughtfully and delicately filling in the gaps that its precursor, a ’90s network sitcom created by two white writers, left behind.”

Regular coverage

Euphoria (HBO, 9 p.m.)
The Righteous Gemstones (HBO, 10 p.m.)

Wild cards

In the Parks And Recreation episode “Galentine’s Day,” Leslie Knope says that the titular holiday falls on February 13th, and is focused on friendships. Here are some (emphasis on some) of our favorite female friendships in TV and film we want to revisit today. Feel free to add your own in the comments:

  • Yellowjackets (Showtime): Read our recent recaps as well.
  • Girls’ Trip (Amazon Prime, $3.99 rental): Reminisce about how we all met Tiffany Haddish for the “first” time.
  • Bend it Like Beckham (HBO Max): Wonder what the world would’ve been like if they had made the main characters gay.
  • When Harry Met Sally (HBO Max): Imagine what it would’ve been like if Carrie Fisher was your best friend.
  • Parks And Recreation’s original Galentine’s Day episode (Peacock or Hulu): And finally, rewatch the original (Season 2, Episode 16). It’s also featured in “Operation Ann,” (Season 4, Episode 14) and another Galentine’s Day” (Season 6, Episode 17).

TUAYPC: The Book Of Boba Fett isn’t terrible, but there’s a lot of missed opportunities. It never rises out of its superior predecessor’s shadow. This
is scattershot but looks great, which is apt for its eponymous Mandalorian.
https://mattthecatania.wordpress.com/2022/02/09/the-book-of-boba-fett-picked-the-wrong-protagonist/That inspired me to revisit the original Clash Of The Titans. It’s still fun despite being mythologically inaccurate. Let the record show R2-D2 isn’t as cool as Bubo!

It amazes me that the Alex Paen E/I filler shows Dog Tales and Animal Rescue were started in the mid-00’s and lasted until around 2019, but every episode looks like it was made using early 90’s consumer filming equipment. Also, surprised AV Club hasn’t made an article about Elmo becoming buddies with the Daleks.

No mention of our annual visit by the majestic Superb Owl?

I seem to recall there used to be a page that covered such things around here…

I binged the second season of Raising Dion, which I enjoyed quite a bit. The post-credits scene, which I won’t spoil, feels like maybe it was tacked on to end the series, which I hope isn’t true. It feels like there’s a lot of story there left to tell as Dion grows into his powers.I started Dollface since I’ve been on a “girlfriend dramedy” genre kick lately with Pivoting and Single Drunk Female (which is really so very good). Dollface did not quite immediately grab me, but I’ll probably give it another couple episodes at least. Also binging the new season of Working on My Resume and Searching for a New Job for the First Time in Many Years. I’m not entirely sure I enjoy this show (it frequently makes me feel like a really unintelligent, unskilled, unemployable fraud), but I feel like I have to keep watching it for my own good.

TUAYPCWMy wife has been watching a bunch of Olympic coverage, so I’ve seen skeleton (and maybe other things that look the same but aren’t). I can’t tell if people are skilled or of you’re just living gravity. I watched 3 episodes of Disenchantment and finished Murderville. Both are…fine. I’m caught up on Vox Machina and can’t tell if it’s confusing because I don’t follow the podcast. I’ve restarted listening to The Eye of the World. It’s both slower than I remember and contains more hunts of things that actually occur in the books I have read more recently. I didn’t remember a bunch of interactions with folk in Caemlyn, and they definitely occur in ways I don’t recall.
