Welcome to the weekend edition of What’s On. Here are the big things happening on TV from Friday, February 16 to Sunday, February 18. All times are Eastern. [Note: The weekly edition of What’s On publishes on Sundays.]
1. Jennifer Lopez stars in whatever This Is Me…Now: A Love Story is
Prime Video, Friday, 12:01 a.m.: To toast her ninth studio album, Jennifer Lopez presents This Is Me…Now: A Love Story. The trailer isn’t all that illuminating, but the Dave Myers-directed film does look like mix of artsy and big-budget aesthetics, and the film has earned strong reviews, including from The A.V. Club. Also, Ben Affleck is in this thing, playing a weirdo version of himself.
2. True Detective: Night Country wraps up
HBO, Sunday, 9 p.m.: True Detective’s fourth season flew by, huh? After all of the theorizing and scares, Night Country officially closes up shop with its sixth and final hour. Helmed and written by Issa Lopez, and led by Jodie Foster and Kali Reis, the show follows cops Liz Danvers and Evangeline Navarro, who try to solve a couple of dark, icy mysteries in their small Alaskan town. 3. Clive Owen’s Monsieur Spade ends its first season
AMC, Sunday, 9 p.m.: Clive Owen’s version of Sam Spade has been one hell of an unexpected gift. Set in 1963, AMC’s neo-noir drama centers on the retired San Francisco PI, who now lives a peaceful life in France. But when an old rival returns, he must return to his investigative ways. Cara Bosom, Denis Ménochet, Dean Winters, and Alfre Woodard co-star. Check out The A.V. Club’s review of the show.
4. Einstein And The Bomb is a well-timed docudrama
Netflix, Friday, 3:01 a.m.: BBC’s historical docudrama Einstein And The Bomb, directed by Anthony Philipson, comes right on the heels of Oppenheimer’s awards run. The project features both archived footage and dramatizations of Albert Einstein’s work, and digs into the impact that had on peers like J. Robert Oppenheimer.
5. The Dynasty: New England Patriots pulls back the curtain on a powerhouse
Apple TV+, Friday, 12:01 a.m.: Need more football after the Super Bowl? The 10-episode docuseries The Dynasty: New England Patriots, from filmmaker Matthew Hamachek, gives an unprecedented behind-the-scenes look at the franchise through sit down interviews with the likes of QB Tom Brady, coach Bill Belichick, and owner Robert Kraft. The show is based on Jeff Benedict’s book of the same name, which he wrote after spending five years with the team.
