Here’s what’s happening in the world of television for Sunday, February 27. All times are Eastern.

Top pick

Killing Eve (BBC America, 8 p.m.): The final season of Killing Eve has arrived. The drama is a tangled web of psychosexual, homoerotic energy between assassin Villanelle (Jodie Comer) and MI6 agent Eve (a super-charismatic Sandra Oh). Plus, there’s lots of feminist girl boss fashion to enjoy. Sex Education’s Laura Neal comes aboard to helm season four, which kicks off with two back-to-back episodes tonight.

Eve is on a revenge mission as season four begins, while Villanelle has found a community to help prove she’s not a monster killer anymore. Carolyn (Fiona Shaw) pursues The Twelve with renewed passion after they ordered a hit on her son. Will Villanelle actually kill Eve, or will it be the other way around? Will they end up together like in Hannibal? Come for the final season, stay for the possible fanfiction. Lisa Weidenfeld will recap weekly.

Regular coverage

Euphoria (HBO, 9 p.m., season-two finale)
The Righteous Gemstones (HBO, 10 p.m., season-two finale)
The Walking Dead (AMC, 9 p.m.)

Wild card

Super-Pumped: The Battle for Uber (Showtime, 10 p.m.): Billions’ Brian Koppelman and David Levein have co-created this anthology drama. The first season is based on Mike Isaac’s book of the same name, and follows the rise and fall of former Uber CEO Travis Kalanick, played here by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The cast includes Kyle Chandler, Uma Thurman, Hank Azaria, Elisabeth Shue, and Kerry Bishé. Quentin Tarantino serves as the narrator. And be sure to check out Leila Latif’s review.

Screen Actors Guild Awards (TBS and TNT, 8 p.m.): The 28th Annual SAG Awards will be broadcast live from Santa Monica Airport’s Barker Hanger. The live red carpet show will air online at the SAG Awards website starting 5:30 p.m. There is no official host, but Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda, Leslie Odom Jr., and Daveed Diggs will kick off the opening ceremony. Kate Winslet is set to present the Lifetime Achievement Award to Helen Mirren.

Top movie nominations include Belfast, CODA, Power Of The Dog, and House Of Gucci. On the TV front, Succession, The Morning Show, Ted Lasso, and Only Murders In The Building lead the pack. Check out the full list here to try and catch up before the award ceremony.

You can’t escape me Shocker! I’ll customize you to the ends of the Earth!
https://mattthecatania.wordpress.com/2022/02/22/what-a-shockerSince the library’s DVD failed me, I finally caught Free Guy on Disney+. It was more meh than I expected. I almost zonked out periodically but it didn’t feel like I missed much.
I liked the puppetry in Netflix’s The House.

I happened to listen to We Hate Movies Free Guy episode yesterday while working, and they also found it very meh and disappointing, while I was charmed by it.  They compared Ready Player One favorably to it, because the latter had an in universe reason for alluding to so many known properties. I’m less surprised that you didn’t love it than I would have been on Friday had I read this.

My channel grid only shows one episode of “Killing Eve” tonight. It is on at 7 Central time, followed by “Scarface” at 8.

Tell Us About Your Pop Culture WeekendI rewatched the hallway fight from Daredevil and the boardroom fright from the Defenders, because I realized I don’t know when I’ll have another chance. They were both very good pieces of television.

I also realized I never actually finished season one of Jessica Jones, due to some issues with my view of sexual assault on celluloid. The show doesn’t glamorize it, but man, it’s brutal at times. I’m super not sure I’ll finish season 1 before it leaves Netflix. The way people in the JJ world approach Kilgrave compared to the Eternals consideration of Druig in the later MCU film is interesting, because it’s given time to breathe over the (way too long) season, but man, Carrie Anne Moss reminds me how much Americans see panacea in every super power, regardless of who carries the power. Incidentally, I also read through four old AV club episode reviews of JJ, and man, 441 comments vs the modern engagement reminds me how far we’ve strayed from the cancelation bear’s love.

I loved season one of JJ. Buuut I am, one a man (arguably), and two have no personal experience with SA. While I still found it to be an often brutal exploration of the theme, it’s also felt like a very honest one. Only, ya know… with super power people. And Tenant is just so damn good and terrifying as Killgrave… certainly the scariest MCU villain to date. Maybe because he’s the most real. There are countless real Killgraves out there. Their powers may not be super, but they do have power.
Kind of tempted to rewatch it now, but yeah… too damn long.RIP AVC Comments.

The various elements of rape and sexual assault and all the case law were my least favorite part of Criminal Law in law school. I have friends who are prosecutors and defense attorneys and I have no idea how they can stomach the work. I can handle messy family law stuff and murder, but SA really messes me up. Still can’t bring myself to watch Promising Young Woman.

TUAUPCW:I tried watching Spencer on Hulu. I was pretty bored with it so I turned it off after 45 minutes and then watched something on Netflix.

Something about the horrors of the real world seems to have me in a scary material mood. I watched the 4th episode of From on Epix, and it continues to be solid, building up the world a bit more this episode. Looking forward to see where it goes.I’m halfway through Archive 81 on Netflix. I love a story that’s scary and hard to tell where it’s going. It’s got a smattering of everything going on – true crime, Rosemary’s Baby, found footage movies, haunted house, ancient evils. Two of the first 4 episodes are directed by Benson/Moorhead, and I think if you’re a fan of theirs, you’ll dig this show. My only gripe is wondering where Melody gets the batteries for her 90s palm-held camcorder, because they last forever!I also want to put in one more plug for Single Drunk Female, which is a really high quality show that I hope enough people are watching for it to get a second season.
