Top pick

Fairview (Comedy Central, 8:30 p.m., series premiere): Stephen Colbert executive produces this adult animated comedy about how national politics causes wild drama in the small town of Fairview. The show is told through the lens of party girl-turned-pragmatic mayor, Kelly Sampson. The series’ voice cast includes Marina Cockenberg, James Austin Johnson, Aparna Nancherla, Jeremy Levick, Blair Socci, Atsuko Okatsuka, Jack Bensinger, and Joey Romaine, among others. Season one consists of eight half-hour episodes.

Regular coverage

The Book Of Boba Fett (Disney+, 3:01 a.m., season-one finale)
South Park (Comedy Central, 8 p.m.)

Wild cards

Catching Killers (Netflix, 3:01 a.m.): Directed by Suemay Oram and produced by Louise Norman, Tom Keeling, and Lydia Delmonte, this true-crime documentary series follows harrowing investigations into serial killer cases. Each episode features two murder investigations from around the world, following police and prosecutors’ journey to arrest violent criminals. The first season covered the Happy Face Killer and Green River Killer; season two will deep dive into the notorious BTK serial killer, among others.

Snowdrop (Disney+, 3:01 a.m.): The six-episode season of this South Korean series is set in 1987 during the country’s mass protest movement to force out dictatorship and hold fair democratic elections. Lim Soo-Ho (Jung Hae-In) plays a graduate student who is discovered covered in blood by fellow student Eun Yeong-ro (Jisoo). She hides him from the government in her room at the women’s university. As their romantic relationship unfolds, it is slowly revealed that he is not who he appears to be.

Only Jokes Allowed (Netflix, 3:01 a.m.): In this stand-up special, South Africa’s six top comedians—Gilli Apter, Schalk Bezuidenhout, Nina Hastie, Robby Collins, Mpho Modikoane, Celeste Ntuli—showcase their talent in a collection of stand-up sets.

Oh jeez, Stephen Colbert is involved in that crappy-looking CC show? They can’t all be Smiling Friends, I guess. Why can’t adult-targeted animated shows these days actually…try?

Wasn’t there also a show he produced that was like a really wacky, animated version of the Daily Show? It was like, a weekly news show, but with animation and “jokes.” It had some super dumb pun title too. That thing looked incredibly bad, but Fairview legit looks like it could be the worst show of all time. That art style is fucking tragic. It reminds me of Archer—another art style I can’t stand at all—mixed with like, whatever Facebook calls their knockoff bitmojis. You know, the ones that every boomer woman you know attaches to every FB post, even though they 1) all look identical, and 2) never look even remotely like the person they’re supposed to be depicting. Plus it just seems dreadfully unfunny, at least from the TV spots. You legitimately couldn’t pay me enough to watch an episode of this fucking thing.Edit: Also, I don’t think terrible adult animation is in any way a new phenomenon. 90% of it has always been pure garbage. For every Bojack Horseman or Mission Hill, there’s 10 Drawn Togethers or Brickleberrys. I’ll never understand why most adult animated shows don’t seem like they’re actually made FOR adults, since only preteens could possibly find them funny.

This animated show looks like absolute shit. Who in their right mind thought it looked good?

This article is really very interesting and effective.

Cool beans! I think I’m just going to watch AEW Dynamite and play some Dying Light 2 instead.

Hopefully they somewhat stick the landing on Bobba Fett. Push that C into a B-.

Oh my god. Who the fuck needs “south park but shittier, with weebles”?? I think after years of everybody kissing Stephen Colbert’s ass, i think it went to his head and he thinks he can do no wrong.

My husband and I are big fans of Colbert pre-Late Show and are watching some of the old episodes of TCR. At that point, IMO the praise was earned, but now – yikes. The writing on The Late Show is just beyond terrible, and this show – maybe if he put some more energy into The Late Show instead of all these side projects, maybe we need more quality vs quantity.(And when did he become just so preachy? Was it so gradual we didn’t notice?)

  • jventure-av says:

Not surprising. Colbert. Its actually pronounced “Bert” at the end. He tries to be cute and clever yet can’t even put in the proper punctuation or pronounce his name correctly. Second his liberal views are wacked out on a scale that would make for a great horror movie. The show looks like it was literally drawn by grade scholl kids playing in the backyard. ColBERT is a puppet. His followers are puppets and he doesn’t even research or write his own crappy material.
