Willie Nelson appeared at a Beto O'Rourke rally, played a catchy tune about voting

On Saturday night, Willie Nelson headlined a concert in Austin for Beto O’Rourke, the Democratic candidate running against famously loathed Republican Ted Cruz for the Senate in November, and he debuted a new, election-themed song called “Vote ‘Em Out.” It’s not a scathing, anti-Trump ballad or anything (leave that to Tom Waits), but it is the sort of jaunty, uplifting tune that people like to hear at political rallies. This comes from Rolling Stone, which transcribed some of the relatively simplistic lyrics:

If you don’t like who’s in there, vote ’em out. That’s what Election Day is all about. And the biggest gun we got is called the ballot box. If you don’t like who’s in there, vote ’em out.

There’s even a call-and-response part where the audience gets to shout “Vote ‘Em Out,” which is pleasantly cathartic. It seems like a throwback to the days when politics didn’t make you want to scream until you explode, which is a little refreshing now that we’ve got one of the biggest recording artists in the world whining on live TV about how nobody lets him support the racist piece of shit in the White House and the racist piece-of-shit cronies he’s spread all over Washington.

Damn it, we’re back in “scream until you explode” mode. We’re just going to listen to the song again. Vote ‘em out, Willie!
