The Witcher had a good run; at least as good as it can get when the lead actor bows out midway through over rumored creative differences. The fact that the show survived to recast Liam Hemsworth as Geralt and even got a spin-off speaks to its success. Now, Netflix has given the series another vote of confidence by renewing it for a fifth and final season before the fourth even airs. Given the streamer’s penchant for cutting a show off at the knees after one or maybe two seasons, letting Witcher end on its own terms is a rare and precious gift.

“It’s official, The Witcher season 4 is in production. But that’s not all, we’re already planning season 5, which will be the final season and bring this epic show to a fitting conclusion. See you on The Continent,” the official Witcher page posted on Twitter/X alongside a video of the cast at a fourth season table read. The video is pretty obviously meant to assuage any of the fans’ worries about Henry Cavill’s departure, as it shows the entire cast laughing and having a good time. In particular, there are some conspicuous moments of Hemsworth palling around with Anya Chalotra (Yennefer) and Joey Batey (Jaskier). The message seems to be, “See guys? The chemistry is intact, you’ve got nothing to worry about.”

According to Netflix’s Tudum, the final two seasons will cover the three remaining books from Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher series (Baptism Of Fire, The Tower Of The Swallow, and Lady Of The Lake). “It is with huge pride that we begin shooting our penultimate season of The Witcher with a stellar cast, including some exciting new additions, led by Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia,” creator and showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to be able to bring Andrzej Sapkowski’s books to an epic and satisfying conclusion. It wouldn’t be our show if we didn’t push our family of characters to their absolute limit—stay tuned to see how the story ends.”
