Hello Upper East Siders, your official date of reckoning has been set. All these years later, there must be plenty of fresh new secrets to spill. Following yesterday’s text invitation, HBO Max divulged the reboot officially premieres on July 8. The big reveal was accompanied by the first teaser trailer.

The teaser features all of the new cast members, including Jordan Alexander, Eli Brown, Thomas Doherty, Tavi Gevinson, Emily Alyn Lind, Evan Mock, Zion Moreno, Whitney Peak, and Savannah Lee Smith, representing the fresh faces of the Upper East Side. Kristen Bell returns as Gossip Girl’s iconic voice saying, “You’ve gotten so comfortable, thinking you’re in control…”

The new series hopes to reflect how social media–and New York City–has changed since the original show ended in 2012, in the early days of Twitter and Instagram. A new generation of scandalous New York private school teens will be introduced to further social surveillance nine years after the original blogger’s website shut down. This also means a revived mystery around the identity of Gossip Girl, and please let it not be class outsider Dan Humphrey this time. Only time will tell for these poor rich souls, XOXO.

I… didn’t even know this was a thing? I’m a huge fan of the OG show and I lived on the UES for years, not far from the school they used for filming. But this? It looks like a bit much. I thought the guy from the YouTube still was animated at first glance. If this is on HBO Max are we gonna see these kids actually fuck?

Also, I know this is just a teaser but something about this cast strikes me as off. I feel like with the original cast you just KNEW they were all stars, Blake Lively especially. None of these actors strike me as stars, they are all beautiful of course, but I don’t get that WOW factor like I did from the original crew. Maybe I’m wrong! Maybe it’s just the rose glasses of nostalgia that I see the old cast through.

If social media is so important to the premise, why doesn’t anyone on the cast look like a TikTok eboy?

It’s HBO so I’m sure at least the wardrobe budget will be big and beautiful. I thought the show Genera+ion is doing some good teen tv though.Anyway, I feel Gen Z isn’t as impressed with money as the millennials were with the OG Gossip Girl. but they are still impressed by image, so we’ll see if this show actually taps into that.

The only way I’m going to watch this is if Gossip Girl actually ends up being Dan Humphrey, now in his 30s and still writing sparky blog posts about high school students.

This looks awful…Is tavi playing a teenager? All these boys look like old melting feet… All these clothes look beyond cheap… old money New York kids do not dress like this and neither do new money nyc kids (two different ends of the spectrum)…who’s brother was hired as the costume designer??

Reboot = same show but everybody is black or gay or both.

This looks terrible, but I’m bias.  I think the original Gossip Girl is the worst TV show ever made.

The enjoyable thing about that header photo is that this revival will probably be as good as it gets career-wise for EVERYONE in that photo!

The new series hopes to reflect how New York City has changed since the original show ended in 2012By making the Upper East Side seem 300% more diverse than it actually is. Not that gritty realism is what the show is probably going for.
