Zack Snyder apparently gave James Gunn the SnyderVerse seal of approval

Tweeting as frequently as ever, James Gunn has responded to the #SellTheSnyderVerseToNetflix hashtag

Believe it or not, handing the keys to the DC kingdom didn’t end the perceived war between Zack Snyder fans and DC Studios—well, the one that exists in the imagination of Snyder’s most loyal followers. Now that DC has done the hard part of officially breaking away from the so-called SnyderVerse, the same fans who successfully campaigned Zack Snyder’s Justice League into existence want Warners to “Sell the Snyderverse to Netflix.” Aside from it being incredibly silly that Netflix is somehow the savior of orphaned media and not another bottom-line media company, these debates are happening without Snyder and the new head of DC Studios, James Gunn and Peter Safran, i.e. the two guys who would have some sway over such a sale.

James Gunn, however, doesn’t sequester himself on Vero. In case you didn’t know, this guy tweets. He tweets a lot, even though it creates headaches for him. Though, earlier today, his candor did offer some clarity on the whole mess (if there even is a mess anymore—it’s really just a one-sided thing at this point.) After sharing an illustration of Swamp Thing, presumably to alert his followers that he’s working on the recently announced Swamp Thing movie, he responded to the “wackiest” hashtag #SellTheSnyderVerseToNetflix and clarified a few things:

“I have to say, this has got to be the wackiest hashtag ever since 1) Netflix hasn’t expressed any such interest (although we’ve discussed other stuff),” Gunn tweeted. “2) Zack hasn’t expressed any interest & seems to be happy doing what he’s doing (and, yes, we too have talked).”

“[Snyder] contacted me to express his support about my choices,” he continued. “He’s a great guy. Again, he seems really happy with the massive world building he’s doing now.”

It sounds like Snyder’s pleased with where things ended with his DC movies—e.g. he was given millions to finish his story, even though it seems like, in hindsight, spending that money wasn’t such a great idea for the studio. Meanwhile, Snyder is working on other movies at budgets, including the Star Wars-inspired Rebel Moon, which, again, is a huge marker of success for any director. Making movies is hard. Only a handful can do it at the studio level, and somehow, Snyder presses on.

“ Only a handful can do it at the studio level, and somehow, Snyder presses on.”What else is he gonna do? Open a Sucker Punch-themed restaurant?

    • frankwalkerbarr-av says:

Hey, to be fair to Snyder, he is up there with great directors like Uwe Boll (who is also still making movies for some reason.)

      • teageegeepea-av says:

Huh, I thought Boll had entirely switched over to restaurants. I was also surprised just minutes ago to see that David O. Russell is making a new movie so soon after Amsterdam bombed.

      I’d drink a Sucker Punch… hopefully with a side of 300 nachos

Snyder’s toxic fans have been super out of line, going so far as to photoshop Superman holding James Gunn’s severed head, and until he publicly tells them to stop this shit he can fuck right off.

    • cosmicghostrider-av says:

And everyone said sure heck lets just give them the Snyder Cut, there’s no possible way that by doing that we’re setting a precedent that as long as fans are loud enough they’ll get what they want. That wont cause any problems.

    • teageegeepea-av says:

There are too many crazy people on the internet to hold celebrities responsible for their fans’ behavior. Each of us is responsible for our own actions. I know when Snyder participated in some sort of online charity streaming event thing he criticized some group that had been supportive of him (in order to distinguish the event he was participating in from them), and then some of them turned on a dime and started blaming the worldview expressed in his movies for his daughter’s suicide… because, again, there are too many crazy people on the internet.

      • ghboyette-av says:

I didn’t know about the charity thing, and the fans blaming the daughter’s suicide doesn’t surprise me, but he should make a publicly addressed statement on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram. Just one is fine. Saying something at a charity with limited eyeballs doesn’t cut it. People with toxic fans should be held accountable when they do more nothing about it than something. Anyway, it looks like we both agree that internet people suck.

        • teageegeepea-av says:

The reason he spoke up in that case was because he was taking part in an event and wanted to distinguish that event from a group that had put themselves forward as backers of it. There’s effectively a never-ending supply of crazy internet people behaving badly, and thus a never ending stream of obligations one would have if one were obligated by something other than one’s own actions.

I’d be curious to see a battle between the two armies of Trump and Snyder but I’m suspicious they’re the same people.

      • ghboyette-av says:

I was going to make the comparison between the two earlier but decided it was giving more thought than either are worth.

Empowering these assholes may have been a strategic mistake.

    • docprof-av says:

They’re probably really touchy about the fact that Gunn is responsible for writing the script for Snyder’s only actually good movie too.

#SellTheSnyderVerseToNetflixFuck me, this is why I really hate these goobers. They don’t even have the first clue how the entertainment business actually works. It’s all just one big fantasy land for them.

    • frankwalkerbarr-av says:

I don’t think the people in charge of Warner/HBO/Discovery or Netflix have the first, second, or third clue how it works either. I think the entertainment scene will look far different in a decade and once famous brands like Warner and Netflix will be just memories or just brand names to be put on the latest scam like with Atari’s legacy.

      • cosmicghostrider-av says:

Oh ur one of those people. Snyder gave his approval isn’t that enough for you guys??

        • frankwalkerbarr-av says:

I can’t tell if you are sarcastic but I’m certainly not saying they were wrong to dump Snyder (although I have no idea why Gunn would want the perhaps impossible job of attempting to salvage the DC movies). My point is that it’s not like the people at Netflix or Warner really know what’s going on what with them hemorrhaging subscribers. Like Elon Musk they aren’t playing 4D chess – they are just desperately flailing around.

    • cosmicghostrider-av says:

This screams of “shake hands for the picture so the rabid toxic fans stop threatening my family”.

  • wildchoir-av says:

“Snyder is working on other movies at budgets”the movies have budgets, you say?

    • teageegeepea-av says:

Perhaps in the past Netflix would give people a blank check, but budgets are tightening and both Hulu & Apple+ beat them to Best Pictures with directors that I assume came much cheaper than Fincher & Scorsese.

  • cosmicghostrider-av says:

Oh look cool, their overlord has given them permission to stop spewing toxic  sludge at James Gunn.

    Maybe this will help.

  • cura-te-ipsum-av says:

This could be a rare case of not knowing who’s the hostage and who’s the hostage taker in this photo. Also just realised Gunn’s hair isn’t white in this photo. How old is this? Could the next one have a newspaper with today’s date in it please?

    • igotlickfootagain-av says:

Well, the caption says it was taken at the ‘Slither’ premiere, and that film was released in 2006, so I guess around then.

  • igotlickfootagain-av says:

Due to a miscommunication, Netflix has just paid for the Schneider-verse, a gritty re-imagining of DC comics characters by Rob Schneider.

  • vroom-socko-av says:

Can I watch the Snyder Cut finally? Seriously-I’ve never seen it but I didn’t like JS, BvS or MoS (despite really really wanting a GOOD Superman portrayal). I have no skin in any game otherwise.

    • cosmicghostrider-av says:

It’s a waste of time or the greatest thing given to man depending on how hard ur sucking Snyders dick. There’s a new scene at the end with Joker that will make any longtime Batman fan want to strangle Zack Snyder. I’ve actually listened to a retail coworker who was a toxic Snyder fan explain to me why it’s the greatest film ever and it was the stupidest rant I’ve ever listened to. It’s just an army of people who want to will the film better than Avengers: Endgame and have based their entire identity around it.

Maybe I should have watched the theatrical and the Snyder Cut back to back. I hadn’t seen it since theatres. I spotted like two differences. Batman doesn’t make a fish joke etc.

In case you don’t know, for some reason it’s 4 hours in length cuz that makes films better. Enjoy.

Nevermind the other pissbaby replying to you, it’s fine. Definitely the best Snyder DCEU entry by far. Up until the embarrassing last 5 mins or so.
