One week after an Oscars ceremony that—to steal a joke from Scott Aukerman—was more like a retired train than a regular awards show (because it went off the rails, you see), the Grammys came in to try and bring some sense of normalcy to the awards-giving community with what was (mostly) a traditional and traditionally boring ceremony.

Of course, “tradition” for the Grammys means a ceremony that is, understandably, more about watching musical performances than it is about giving out little golden gramophones, and the 2022 Grammy Awards kept that tradition alive by presenting the vast majority of its awards in a “Premiere Ceremony” hours before the actual show started. Big winners in that block included Kanye West, St. Vincent, Foo Fighters, and… Louis C.K., none of whom were actually there to accept during the pre-show.

During both the Premiere Ceremony and the main show, big nominees include BTS, Bo Burnham, Lil Nas X, Jon Batiste, H.E.R., and Doja Cat. Big winners during the actual show included Olivia Rodrigo, Jazmine Sullivan, Chris Stapleton, Doja Cat, Silk Sonic (a surprising upset!), and Jon Batiste.

Below this is a list of all the major awards given out during the Premiere Ceremony and the regular show here. You can find the full list of winners at the Grammy Awards website.

There’s an unfortunate lack of Little Simz in the rap categories.

    • bowie-walnuts-av says:

Little Simz is super dope. In general, these rap nominations are TRASH. Apparently they’ll just nominate anyone with name recognition,  because how in the fuck did Drake’s CLB get nominated?!

      • fireupabove-av says:

Yeah, seems like the Grammy folks switched on JAM’N 95.7 for about 15 minutes and called it done.

  • porter121-av says:

Giving Louis CK a grammy would be a great way to show him how cancelled he is.

  • dudebraa-av says:

The Grammys are like if the Oscars only nominated summer blockbusters in every category.

    • dropossum-av says:

They did choose the least popular of the Album choices (Jon Batiste’s) to win, so they do go with the equivalent of smaller indie films too.

    • nilus-av says:

The Grammy looks slightly more credible then the MTV Movie awards but slightly less credible then the MTV Music awards.

  • bloggymcblogblog-av says:

Louis CK won the best comedy album award. That’s not a good look for them.

    • erikveland-av says:

Dead quiet reception except for five shrieking women for some reason. Ugh.

    • tkincher-av says:

I won’t defend Louis, but Kanye seems much worse. While I think that being a total creeper is bad on its own terms, obviously, actively supporting a fascist white supremacist movement seems much worse to me.

    • vayde-av says:

But Yeezus winning is perfectly fine right?

    • mikepencenonethericher-av says:

Beyond the obvious reasons as to why giving him an award is a terrible look… Was the comedy any good?

      • nilus-av says:

Wasn’t this his “comeback” album where he railed against cancel culture and #MeToo?  I heard that is what his stand up has been for the last year or so, a long with some shitty Covid related takes.  From what I hear he has went full on “Old white man” mode

        • mikepencenonethericher-av says:

That’s how I recalled it also. Not saying that if it was brilliant that it would be any more justified, but at least it’d make some sense

  • Robdarudedude-av says:

I was puzzled why “An Evening With Silk Sonic” was not among the best Album nominees until I realized it may not have been released within that confusing eligibility window. But I could be wrong.

    • joseiandthenekomata-av says:

You were right the first time – the eligibility window for nominees ended on September 30th, over a month before Silk Sonic’s album was released.

  • maulkeating-av says:

    Obligatory:

Damn, people really went into it over the Louis CK win.

———————————————— @BoboTalkClown: so much for “cancel culture” apparently you can just do whatever you want if you’re famous@DrTomWay: So a five year sentence as persona non grata is not enough for something a person admits to and apologizes for?@1mordiciple: No never, as a survivor the sentence should be a lifetime equal to the victims lifespan the victim will never be free of the memory NOR should the assailant————————————————@popcultureczar: He shouldn’t have to pay for that forever. He paid his price.@profharbinger: Yes he should. And no he didn’t.@1mordiciple: If the victim is still alive the assailant should pay until their last breath The crime lives on until the victim is no longer————————————————@pwroflov: Absolutely yes. He’s a king. He’s one of the best comedians in the world. I loved Sincerely.@SunshineSkitten: He’s a sexual predator. You support a sexual predator. You enjoy comedy that’s from a sexual predator.@pwroflov: Worth it, I mean have you heard his bit on abortion?! Hysterical@SunshineSkitten: Sweet. I just wanted the screenshots to send to your job. Thx for accomodating!!!!

  • gritsandcoffee-av says:

A toxic, shitty awards show gives out its toxic, shitty awards. It’s an abortion every single year. And no decent performances to make up for it. Jon Batiste for album of the YEAR!?It’s so corrupt, it makes me sad.
