Now that the blue carpet arrivals are finished arriving, it’s time to get to the meet of tonight’s 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards: The, uh, awards. Airing on Netflix tonight, the celebration is handing out statues for work in both television and film, with earlier winners from the evening’s festivities including Jeremy Allen White (for The Bear), Ali Wong (for her work on Beef), Mission: Impossible—Dead Reckoning Part 1 for Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble, and HBO’s The Last Of Us (for the same category, but in TV).

We’ll continue to update our list of winners throughout the evening, tracking all the biggest winners at tonight’s SAG Awards—including, as we’re updating, Ayo Edibiri, Pedro Pascal, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph.

Update: And that’s a wrap! Big winners tonight included, unsurprisingly, The Bear, Beef, and Oppenheimer, the latter of which pulled down three acting roles, including for its ensemble cast. TV had at least a few upsets, though—including a rare loss for the Succession bunch, with a punchy Pedro Pascal beating the odds against Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin, and Matthew Macfadyen.

JUST NOW: Pedro Pascal finally won a major award for his performance in The Last of Us. He won a SAG award. (Screen Actors Guild)I think it might be the first award given to an actor for portraying a character from a movie adapted from video game

The Bear is a lot of things , but comedy series it is not,

The only reason I can fathom for The Bear being categorized as a “comedy” is because most episodes have a half hour runtime.

I dont work in the food industry, but I cannot fathom watching this and laughing.  Its about as funny as the Eastland Disaster and the loss of the Rat Hole.

I have worked in restaurants, on both sides of the kitchen door.
The Bear is restaurant-based argument porn, and about as realistic.
The penultimate episode of season one is exaggerated beyond suspension of disbelief. I know the show has its fans but I stopped watching.

I think about the Eastland probably once a week. Only think about The Bear when it’s on my screen.

        • bio-wd-av says:

Wait you know about the Eastland?  I’m impressed and happy.

          • barnoldblevin-av says:

I like reading and watching documentaries about shipwrecks, naval disasters, and the histories of ships. The Eastland disaster is such a crazy story.

          • bio-wd-av says:

Oh wow! That’s really cool of you. Eastland is one of my big passions, been working on a documentary about it for years. Recently got the audio finished from it, assistance from the EDHS. Ship history is always fascinating.

          • barnoldblevin-av says:

Can’t wait to watch that documentary!

Good news, in about two weeks we can quit pretending to care about Oppenwhocares and Killers of the whatever and forget them completely. These comedy nominations also stink. Can we just have separate Dramedy and Comedy categories for all these awards maybe?

    • luasdublin-av says:

Increase the categories to best 30 minute comedy , best 30 minute drama , best hour long comedy , best hour long drama , but decrease the awards by making ‘actor’ gender nuetral , so instead of best actor/actress , best supporting actor/actress its just “actor” for both genders.I mean they have the same job , so why split it by gender?Oh and shows cant change catagories once they’ve picked one and been nominated , so if ‘the bear’ submits as a comedy (which its not , but anyway) , its cant change to drama the following year if that has less competition .This would be fairer , but since fairness has nothing to do with awards , and instead its about backslapping , and being shown to be picking the shows with the most momentum , and money , nothing will change.

It’s absolutely infuriating how many great comedies were robbed of their chances by pushing “The Bear”, an absolutely non-comedy, in the “comedy series” category.
