Welcome to the weekend edition of What’s On. Here are the big things happening on TV from Friday, March 8 to Sunday, March 10. All times are Eastern. [Note: The weekly edition of What’s On publishes on Sundays.]

1. Well, well, well… the Oscars are finally here

Kate McKinnon, America Ferrera & Ryan Gosling Help Jimmy Kimmel Get to the Oscars

ABC, Sunday, 7 p.m.: At long last, the 2024 Oscars are here, which means the discourse is almost done about Greta Gerwig snubs, Lily Gladstone versus Emma Stone, and Bradley Cooper’s entire Maestro campaign schtick. (Yes, we know the 2025 discourse will begin approximately two minutes after this year’s ceremony ends.) Anyway, Jimmy Kimmel is back as the host, and you can expect musical performances from Ryan Gosling, Billie Eilish, Jon Batiste, and Finneas. Some of the top nominees this year are Oppenheimer, Poor Things, and Killers Of The Flower Moon. Stay tuned for The A.V. Club’s breakdown of the awards next week.

2. Millie Bobby Brown is a Damsel in her new film

Damsel | Official Trailer | Netflix

Netflix, Friday, 3:01 a.m.: Millie Bobby Brown’s partnership with Netflix continues after Stranger Things and the Enola Holmes movies with the dark fantasy film Damsel. Directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, it follows a sheltered princess named Elodie who marries a prince only to learn his family is planning to sacrifice her… in a cave with a dragon. Think of it as old-timey Ready Or Not of sorts. Angela Bassett, Robin Wright, Nick Robinson, and Shohreh Aghdashloo co-star.

3. Eugene Levy is back as The Reluctant Traveler

The Reluctant Traveler — Season 2 Official Trailer | Apple TV+

Apple TV+, Friday, 12:01 a.m.: Eugene Levy is a slightly less Reluctant Traveler in the second season of his travel reality series. The actor, who famously hates to step out of his comfort zone and visit new places, challenges himself again in these seven new episodes, experiencing local gems, discovering his family tree, and attempting to broaden his horizons.

4. Josh Brolin graces Saturday Night Live again

Josh Brolin Is Hosting SNL!

NBC, Saturday, 11:30 p.m.: Dune: Part Two’s Josh Brolin hosts Saturday Night Live in his third appearance on the sketch-comedy series. (Let’s hope he has some poems to recite.) The actor is joined by musical guest Ariana Grande, whose album Eternal Sunshine drops March 8. The A.V. Club’s recap of the episode publishes on Sunday.

5. Chelsea Peretti takes over as a First Time Female Director

First Time Female Director | Official Trailer | The Roku Channel

Roku, Friday, 8 p.m.: Chelsea Peretti wrote, helmed, and stars in the meta-comedy First Time Female Director as Sam, an aspiring scribe forced to go behind the camera. As she struggles to make the most of the opportunity, Sam has to deal with a complex, eclectic cast. The movie co-stars Andy Richter, Amy Poehler, Max Greenfield, Tim Heideker, Megan Mullaly, Kate Berlant, Meg Stalter, Jak Knight, and Blake Anderson.

6. A special post-Oscars episode of Abbott Elementary

‘Abbott Elementary’ Season 3 Teaser Trailer | New Season Wednesday February 7

ABC, Sunday, 10:30 p.m.: Instead of its usual Wednesday night time slot, Abbott Elementary gets a post-Oscars spotlight on ABC. In season three’s seventh episode, titled “Willard R. Abbott,” the school is declared a Philadelphia landmark and a huge celebration is planned. Episode eight drops at its usual time on March 13.
