Alanis Morissette is turning Jagged Little Pill into a Broadway musical

Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill is about to become a Broadway musical. The Canadian singer is adapting her 1995 record with help from producer Vivek J. Tiwary, who helped launch the stage version of Green Day’s American Idiot. Morissette says she looks forward “to taking the heart of Jagged Little Pill and expanding its story, fleshing it out into even deeper layers of emotionality, specificity, humanity, power, physicality, spirit, and fabulism,” whatever that is.

There’s little information yet on how the musical, also called Jagged Little Pill, will actually be structured, but it’s supposed to be ready for workshop performances by sometime next year. The musical will include all the tracks from the record—which has sold 33 million copies worldwide—as well as a couple new songs from Morissette that will be composed just for the play. Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winner Tom Kitt, also an alum of American Idiot, will provide orchestration and arrangements.

So far, Dave Coulier has not offered comment.
